Keep the project pics coming!!
BTW, did you strip your frame completely or did you just find another frame? I'm following this thread because this is what I'll be starting soon as well. Keep up the good work :waytogo: !

the frame is the same one. it's down to a few x-members & body mount hangers. that's pretty much all. all the other brackets have been torched off. well i'd like to see your project considering it'll have rocks N a lo max. sounds like it's gonna be sweet. who's 4L80E are you going to run? i'm currently looking for a stout 700R4 to run, & the only real options i'm considering are PATC's 700r4 level 3 raptor or bowtie overdrive's level 3. i just don't trust anyone local to do it

yea i may end up going with PATC's 700R4. we'll see.

UPDATE: haven't done much. lol. got my winch from jackedjimmy, should be receiving it sometime later this week. BUT good news is, i have started throwing down some beads. my wife's uncle is teaching me with a stick welder & we'll be moving to a MIG once i can master the stick. i layed down some beads this past weekend, got some great feedback, told me beads weren't too bad for never picking up a welder in my life, but i had a hell of a time getting started. that was the hardest part. also i was working with a crappy helmet so i got a bit of eye sunburn. couldn't even open my eyes the next morning, so later this week i'll be going to get myself a pimping helmet. but once i get the hang of welding, he's gonna help me out to box my frame, so instead of spending over 2K, i'll just have to worry about the gas & material & brews :) . but once i get that done, i'm going to mount the motor, order up my tranny, setup the doubler & FOR THE BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT, my buddy & i are considering building a 4link front and rear using coils (to save some $$) but i'll have to do some more research soon. but this is just an idea right now. we'll have to see. will get more updates when they come up...haven't forgotten about my post, i just haven't really done much.

I have a really nice auto helmet, and my trusty 59.00 harbor frieght one,

I would say to get the harbor frieght one, I love it and its been very reliable, I hate helmets where you have to flip em open and close..open..close..open..wait what was I welding on again..:haha:

I learned on a old craftsman copper cored buzz box, still a favorit in my book, right now learning to tig... bring on the headaches because tig was not ment for the impatient :)

:haha: ...i'm looking at the harbor freight helmets but any other companies that offer any?...

very badass! im going to be building a NWF doubler soon. if you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for the doubler kit and lo-max? id love to have 6:1 but i think thats going to be out of my price range:doah: why couldnt i pick a cheap hobby?:haha:

you are sinking so much money into this rig in such a short time span its crazy. did you find out you only have 1 year to live or somehting so your spending every you've got? im very jealous!

is this rig going to turn into a beater, or are you planning on keeping the body clean?

thanks for comments. :D i paid almost 2800 for the doubler, 203 rebuild kit, COMPLETE LO MAX, 1410 yokes, 32 spline front output shaft, and about $34 for shipping allllll the way from Canada to my place in texas, which is about 5 minutes from the tex/mexico border *literally* Jordan & Kyle were really helpful and great guys to deal with. I'm still going to order their isolator kit & triple shifters (i need to decide how i'm going to clock my t-cases).

i found out that when i finish school next summer i'm going to have to get the wife a land rover :eek1: :doah: but i'll be starting a fullsize width swap on my '95 4runner with an atlas when i get her vehicle. but that means no diesel powered tow vehicle for me for a while :( :(

i hope it isn't a beater. i'm picking up a plasma cutter this weekend hopefully if my sister picks it up for me in houston. but i'm thinking of narrowing the WHOLE thing, not just the fenders...kinda like ballistic was thinking. but i don't know, maybe i'll just narrow the fenders. i'm thinking of picking up some CTMs for the D60 & i'll be converting it over to manual warn hubs. i picked up my winch for pretty cheap off of jackedjimmy. & although i was thinking of linking it up, i think i'll be fine with leafs. & while i'm practicing to weld at the moment and i have a great mentor, i may also pick up a tube bender :D . i'm tired of not doing crap for myself.

but anyway, no i'm not having a midlife crisis, i'm just a 23 yr old taking advantage of my wife's considerate side...anyway i told her i'd make it automatic so she could drive it... as if...............

damn son, you gatta be rollin i dough. this project, then 4runner with atlas, while gettin her a rover...man. hope im that well off when i get outa college. my theory with my build was to start it i highschool and finish it before i get out into the "real world" where ill have to pay for housing, food, etc. if i waited, i would never be able to afford this hobby.

ive decided im definitely going to run kyles doubler, and i wish i could run a lo max with it, but since my tranny is on its last legs and my mpg sucks im doin diesel/4L80E swap as well...talk about killing funds for the lomax.

when do you plan to have this thing done? i wanna see how it turns out! what tires are you going to run?

not sure. would like to have it done by december. so i can have it ready by spring break. take it out to the beach. want to head to katemcy & trees here in TX...and planning a trip to a place in Mexico called "el cielo" beautiful mountain & my dad has a bet going that my '72 won't make it up w/a automatic. going to run 44s...they're just sitting in my garage right now :doah:

I know you set him straight about that. :smirk: Right?

Builds looking good, keep up the progress.

sweet. so since they got my name on them, guess you'll be needing my shipping addy as well right?:haha: very sweet! no bling bling beadlocks? hurry up and git-r-done already! i wanna see this thing wheel!

no bling bling on my rig. just plan to keep the body blinging & not adding any more chrome than it already has. maybe i'll add some rock rings down the road, but they'll stay like that for now. like i said, once my frame gets done, then things can really start to come together. i should have it painted by this weekend, then i'll move on to boxing some of the crucial areas. then on goes the suspension or the tub. depending on when my parts come in.

...well it feels great to finally get started on the frame. things can now start to come together after WAAAAY TOOO MUCH procrastinating...i guess i got into the ordering parts routine & didn't wanna get off my lazy ass to do something. got the frame sandblasted, so much easier than taking a grinder to it. then we went about setting the first coat of primer on it. we're hoping to add another 2 coats to make sure this bastard doesn't rust again. then we'll be spraying on the gloss black paint.

That is awesome! :haha: :haha:

You should market that as a DIY tanning solution!

So how much does that bare frame weigh - I'm assuming two guys can move it around with ease?

What happened to boxing it - did you decide against it? (hmmm... maybe I should go back and read my post)

yea i'm still gonna box it. just wanted to clean up the frame & paint it even tho i know i'll have to be grinding that crap off again when i box it. & two people can move it around with ease. yea i'm already a vendor for the DIY tanning solution. lol.
