72 k5, sons first truck build.(officially NOT mine now..)

Finally got around to taking the top back off:rolleyes: Its in the garage and ready to fix n paint. Kids been driving it for a while now. Just about to change the oil again and start on door hardware (window mech's and such) and side panels. Been crazy around here lately but getting back to stuff now. Heres some pics of top problems, Any ideas? I'm thinking of removing rain lips altogether:dunno: Or trying to rebuild them,,,,, but I've NEVER done fiberglass yet. One of the few things I havent dabbled in. watched it, but thats it:doah:

We had fun doing it up till now, But unfortunately he recently confessed he hates working on stuff:confused: He is interested in the cutting side panels, paint, and cosmetic side now. But doesnt want to work on it mechanically:doah: I told him that its part of having a 72 and we're not sure where it's going to go from here:dunno: It may become mine and him get somthing else. He does love his truck and is super proud of it so I have my fingers crossed that he'll come around:waytogo:

I'm sorry to hear that, he mite just be blown out on the mechanical part of it. I'm building a S10 for a kid thats the opposite right now. We've been doing body work for two years now and all he wants to do is mess with the engine and suspention. I keep telling him one thing at a time or the fun tokens run out.
Or you can say fine you don't want to work on it I'll just get you a Honda, haha.:haha:

dude that sucks! I would give anything for my dad to help out on my blazer or give interest. :dunno:

I love the square body, but after being exposed to the 1st gens I am gaining an appreciation for them...lots of "sculpting" and body lines...I like the way they did the line in the door that matches the top of the bed rails...makes it continuous...

He's a kid.

He's either being disagreeable to be disagreeable (I made a sport of it for a good decade) or he's actually realizing he doesn't like something.

I'll spin wrenches all day but I HATE bodywork. With a passion.

i think hes realizing he doesnt like it. he'll keep the basics but I get the feeling he'll pay someone to do the ruff stuff when he's on his own. Oh well:dunno: Never wanted him to be JUST like me:rolleyes: He'll figure out what he wants.

Nice work. Your kid is a lucky fellow. I'd ditch the hard top and find a soft top if you can.

I have an extra soft top for my '72. it's not in perfect shape, but if you're interested let me know and we can talk about it.

we talked about the soft top thing, and he wants one. but cash flow for it has pretty much stopped lately. We're 11k into this thing and it still rides sounds and looks kinda like a beater:doah: It'll be awile before we spend more than the $200 to paint it

no worries. I'm not planning on doing anything with it in the near term. I have 2 soft tops and 2 sets of hardware, so hit me up if you change your mind.

Holy chit, we finally threw paint on the top:rolleyes: It took us long enough:haha: I'm not plotting a time line on any projects anymore cause they all seem to end up done MONTHS later:D But its painted now:waytogo:

dont work with doublewall or the windsheild frame bolts

I wish he had a single wall, it'd be much easier to put on/ take off. right now he has 2 on each side that are bad and neither front corner of the windsheild frame
