72 k5, sons first truck build.(officially NOT mine now..)

the axle..? No. It just sucks that I have to swap everything from balljoints out off this axle to the drum brake one I got with the frame. Id much rather have just bolted everything back under the new frame. oh well I guess:dunno:

the original was disc brake. the one that I got with the replacement axle is drum brake. so I figured I can just switch everything from knuckle out and be fine.

I gotta check ratio's too to make sure they match also.

forgot the camera but we got the old frame off and cut up today. had to remove a few crossmembers that the new frame didnt have for some reason.. now i'm searching for a media blaster in my area to clean the frame up for me. my way wasnt workin.... once its painted its all systems go...

Take your time and check ino this. I remember doing this years ago and having a problem with the calipers clearing something { i dont recall what} but I remember a lot of grinding. Just a heads up.

:waytogo:

I'm gonna check, measure and compare everything before i try. either way the drum brakes are coming off some how :D

How do you tell if you have a "Low tunnel" or "High tunnel" floor pan?? I have been trying to talk marcus into going bedliner for the floor, but he's stuck on carpet. so when i looked it up i see the low and high thing.... I dont know which we need:dunno:

And,
Is there any way besides a torch to remove FUSH bushings..? I didnt get them out before it went to the blaster/primer shop.:doah: so now I'll have to mess up the epoxy primer if i do it with a torch..... I'll still do it that way if I have to. But i'd like to hear other ideas...

Grinder/punch will get the FUSH off easily. Obviously you'll have bare metal under where the stock one was, but you won't need to heat it (as much).

I was thinking about that... taking it off would be easier for sure.. i may actually just replace them with the bigger bushing kind from ORD or DIY4X if im going to take them off though:dunno:. the ones they show in the pics appear to mount different though?

I put Kert's on mine. I just had to enlarge the main hole and drill one or two more (can't remember offhand). Was pretty simple though.

Were you talking about just taking the bushings out of the stockers? In that case you could just drill a bunch of holes in it, but it'll take a long time vs torch.

yeah I'd like to keep the stockers if possible.... i think ill try the drill holes thing first...

Ahh:thumb: I think i have a plan.... I just found out my buddy has a porta power with a whole box of extensions and attachments... Im gonna try and press them out.. I figured ill put a bunch of washers on a long carrige bolt and slide it through the sleeve and press from the other frame rail...

That'll do it!
