'72 K5 - Where do I go from here?

U joints in axleshafts? Cut em out. I have damaged axleshafts. Closed up the space where put the u joint.

Cut them out with an angle grinder and a cut off wheel. After you cut the cross out its easy to get the rest out.

Clean up the surface area with scotchbrite pads or emery cloth. I used to use antisieze also but usually broke them or just replaced as a matter of routine maintenance

That's an idea I had not even considered. Makes sense, you pretty much destroy them taking them out anyway. I appreciate it. I'll see how my angle grinder does on those things on Saturday.

Thanks for the props Campfire, but it's nothing. His dad and I help one another out all the time, it's how we live in my little town.

Been pretty damn busy during the week learning the new job, but I did get time to call ORD and order my lift kit today. Now back to reading debates: AAW vs. Painless. I want to order all the parts I can now, before the wife realizes how much I am spending......

I have no experience with AAW but I installed a painless harness in my 71 c10. I did it while in high school with a little help, but it wasn't hard at all. All the wires are color coded, and labeled every foot. I believe there are diagrams in the manual too.

All the wires come extra long so you can route them however you like and it also has a ton of extra circuits if you want to add more features.

I have no complaints, been 5 years now I believe and haven't had a single issue. I also don't think the price is that bad considering what you are getting.

I am making a list of everything I need to buy to get the 'frame' ready to drop the body back on (after engine rebuild, etc - still about a year out). Anyway, gas tank. I've read a ton of threads and understand that I can either take old and new to a radiator shop and have necks swapped, or cut the new neck a bit and 'attach' the two with that radiator hose looking gas hose/clamps. Are there any 'late breaking' products, ideas, tips, etc. out there regarding the gas tank issue? While I'm at it, anything I should be aware of or be careful of when I order the tank and sending unit? Right now 'Truck Shop' looks like the best price.

Mine is from truck shop and works fine. If you are close enough for puckup then you can avoid the freight shipping charge. I think it was still the best price even with that charge for me. It's been a while since I've had it full of gas but the sender that came with either reads over or under full for me, can't remember which.

I'd have a stock type neck brazed onto the new tank... Shouldn't cost much and you can avoid extra clamps and hoses that will look janky and "shade tree"....

Might even be worth getting that new tank dipped in some kind of rust prohibitor to keep it from rusting internally. Seems like with today's low-quality fuels there is always the risk of corrosion. Adding a little extra protection might be good peace of mind.

Appreciate it guys. I'll see if I can 'have to' take a trip to our LA office so I can save shipping charges.

Cleaning some parts and noticed - one of these things is not like the other......tear the dust cover off the one with, or try to find one with a cover to replace one missing cover? Does a dust cover really matter in a 2-3k/yr driven vehicle?

throw the dust covers in the scrap pile... mudcatcher's...

More parts! New stock rear springs from Rockauto, and the (beginning of, I assume) the arrival of all the ORD parts for my shackle flip/4" lift. I am stoked!

UPS dude must hate me......he dumped everything in front of the house garage, 150' from shop. Figured I'd use that Super Duty for something cool.......

Here's the best I can do on brand: DAYTON 22403 I got them from RockAuto. I didn't really pay attention to brand......maybe I should have......
