72 project...updates 11-4..new pics with cab on bed on

Re: pics of the new 72 project...

[ QUOTE ]
I have a fiberglass 95 step side bed, but I am looking for a clean 67-72 bed

[/ QUOTE ]

Even in a restified truck with modern touches , it would look the best with a nice stepside bed with the a clean WOOD floor /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Re: pics of the new 72 project...

are you saying a wood floor in the 95 bed?

or a wood floor in the 67-72 bed?

my only hang up is since the the project is moving so quick, and the cab is so damn strait I will be ready for paint in no time at all. Finding a strait 67-72 bed, or making one strait is both exspensive and time consuming.

I am going to Phoenix tommarow to look at a 71 step side bed, if it is really strait and doesnt have the fender spare carrier I will pick it up, but he wants 700.00 for it /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I would rather put 700.00 into my tranny, or towards my buckets. I also already have a 95 bed....just a hard decision /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: pics of the new 72 project...

Pick up that brake piece while you are there! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Yup , it would be a little different , but you never sleep much so you can get it done quick /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Re: pics of the new 72 project...

I am on it, just wadding through the mud /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif

Re: pics of the new 72 project...updates!!!!!

more progress, the air compressor blew a hard line that refills the tank, so I will have to fix that before I can sand blast the frame /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

chop shop 101 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

today was a fun day, I had to give up though because the sun was getting really hard to deal with and I was out of water, I think it was 106 or so /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: pics of the new 72 project...updates!!!!!

Did you use the sawall to cut it off or something else - you don't mess around when you get on a project!

Re: pics of the new 72 project...updates!!!!!

yup sawzaw!!

I am trying real hard to find a blazer windshild, if I cant find one I will just smooth out the top and curve it and weld a cap on, as for the rear I am making a cap to weld on as well. I also looked at the bed today that I wanted..what a fricking joke! Piece-o-[darn]!

I hope I fnd a bed soon /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

also I found some one local to make me a custom windshild so now I can chop a few inches off the windshild frame /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Just need to find some 8 lug cragers, I think that my ck5 class of axles breaking 102, tought me to put a bigger rear end when you plan to apply a big block to the solution /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: pics of the new 72 project...updates 8-18-04

getting back on the ball this week, I had to take a break to finish the 86 and have some fun /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I picked up another 67 pick up this week so I am going to convert my leaf sring rear to a coil set up. This allows me to achive a cleaner look, better ride and more wheel and tire choices as well as any ride hight I want /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

just need to do some grinding to get the parts though,

to make things more interesting I still have not found a bed to use, the one I had lined up is pretty trashed on one side now /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

Re: pics of the new 72 project...updates 8-18-04

The coil setup will be easier to hook up too . You can run airbags in the rear coils as needed to control launching it . And thank god you can run a 1 piece driveshaft now /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: pics of the new 72 project...updates 8-18-04

Wow guys...

I am about to make a huge dead line...

Running, driving, wheels and tires and new suspension and ready for paint by the end of October...

Lets see if I can at least get close to the dead line /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

Week of September 13-17th plan..

Monday .. pull the 67 around back, remove rear axel, trailing arms, cross member, brackets, track bar.. /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif go pick up ford nine rear from Rich’s shop.

Tuesday set 72 truck frame on jack stands air lift, cut , section and re-weld frame back up

Wednesday remove leaf springs and all brackets, clean and install trailing arm brackets, coil buckets ect. Disassemble front suspension and steering.

Thursday clean up thick spots on cross members, and start sand blasting and frame prep.

Friday shoot the etching primer, and frame coating

20th-24th

Monday reinstall all painted and prepped brackets on frame, install fuel lines and break lines, and rear lines and rear wiring along rails.

Tuesday install new motor mounts, clean and prep big block for install. Drop turbo 400 off to rebuild shop

Wednesday purchase new calipers, and pads, shock and rear frame bolts hardware ect, new ball joints, tie rods ends , idler arm ect. Start trailing arm bracket mounts.

Thursday install the big pig of a big block, test fit exhaust for routing through cross member, fab mounts.

Friday -..nadda

sep 27th-oct 1st

Install 4/6 drop kit, coils, shocks, track bar, drop spindles, new rotors and break hardware and wheel studs. Bolt up spare trailer rims and tires in front.

Weld on rear mounts and rear coils and shock relocation kit.
Have chassis rolling and done by 1st... /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif.. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

oct 4th-8th

Place body in shop on chassis cart... start the door shaving, coat door inner panel with rubberized sound deadener. re-install hardware, install new door guides and felts.

-cap the rear of the cab. Lots of work here.. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

-start rocker added support and stiffening

-finish windshield metal work

This is a big goal..ok it is huge

Wish me luck, I hope if I set weekly goals and time lines then I will have a good chance at finishing this thing.

Other do-dads along the way, Ricks cowl hood, 68-fenders, crager ss wheels, new carpet, dash, and kick panels. Key less door popper kit from chassis tech. Seats from a late model chevy/gmc ECT 60/40 or 40/20/40

This is nutty, and seems unlikly..but I will give her hell /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Still need to find the seats, step side bed and choose tires, not to mention the shaving and filling and metal work involved... /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Re: pics of the new 72 project...updates 8-18-04

I have a gto convert that is stealing my time in the shop right now,

the frame is done, welded, braced, ecched and primered,

new motor mounts and the suspension should be here real soon, today I will shoot the frame with paint and get the lines installed and new bump stops. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

also found a bed but it is a wide bed not a step side..it will work for now

Getting close!

532757_160_full.jpg

I am finally ready to put the cab on, I finished the tranny crossmember today, I am just worried that if I put the cab on it will cause me a head-ache when I make the headers, I might go the easy way out and buy them though...kind of depends on the time/ money involved /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Also I am digging into the brake set up, I am using a brake booser and mc for a chevy s-10 and putting the pedal and bracket mounts on the frame so I can have a clean fire wall.

I still dont have a 12 bolt in, but I want to concentrate on the the body right now since it will have a few custome touches such as the roll pan, shaving, roof chop ect. When it is time for paint I will pull the cab again, but I want it on for fitment and to get it in the shop so it is easier to work on.
