73 K20....crossmember time

Naw it's cool, I already have rust free tub sitting in my shop, and I don't drive my trucks in the winter. The body damage does give the truck some character, but usually it's one a trip not the whole thing in one trip. I know it wasn't running etc so it's understandable.

Thanks for understanding. Had it been up to me the truck would be very clean still. I was just showing it can go either way. Skunked makes a good point... these trucks end up in a grinder if you dont use them. Sure shes beat up and has character but to me its one more square body on the road. I think thats where we can all agree and come together. One more square on the road is one more, regardless of the shape its in.

That may be the reason im getting some new sheetmetal on Saturday, but the learning experience was worth it. I know what I need to do to this one to keep it straight ish

Exactly. I think when I get tired of the banged up sheet metal ill dove it front and rear. Its way easier to keep them straight out here that way. Heavy amounts of learning for me within the last week.

If he never made the comment it wouldn't have ever happened. End of story.

Im not a fan of the smarmy pompous remarks I get from purists so maybe itll be a lesson...if you come in here acting like a fool you'll get a smack. You guys are making the decision to come to my build thread and talk trash, its easily avoided by hitting close tab.

:surepal:

I don't think the comment was made to put your rig down in any way and I don't think he was calling your fender trimming a "hack job" either although IMO there is room for improvement aesthetically. I think he was just making light of the situation and saying that it is a shame to trim straight fenders. :dunno:

I get where you're coming from. It was my first time trimming a vehicle like that, with the wrong tools. It could certainly be better, there's no doubting that. Most of the people who don't like the trim job run around in 2wd most the time in their rig anyway. They'll be ignored.

Obviously my point went right over your head. Because now you are even being hypocritical... You did not ignore, you reported him to moderators for something small and ridiculous because you got a wee bit butt hurt.

I will stop as its getting nowhere, and im tired of kicking this dead horse. :waytogo:

I see reading comprehension eludes you. My response says they'll not they've.

Walk on home boy!

Charcoal...

After I dug out the majority from the carb...

Somehow didnt hit the light...

Top is definitely not going back on any time soon...maybe never.

Shes probably going to be down for a few months. I have a lot to buy, make and research. Itll be a far better rig next time I go out.

I missed it, how did the exhaust pressurize the fuel tank?

I missed it, how did the exhaust pressurize the fuel tank?

It got bent up in the trail. I guess i whacked it on something and it stayed up. There was about 1.5 feet from the gas tank but it pressurized it really badly. It took about 10 minutes to get the pressure out. Definitely coming up with a shorter exhaust that doesn't include a cat. Turn downs are a must too. I never knew that could even happen until it did.

I can honestly say I have never seen that happen before. Maybe the charcoal canister was bad, or went bad, when the tank got cooked and allowed it to bypass into the carb. Worst I have ever seen one get was filled to the gills with gas after somehow failing. Never seen one puke its carbon.

Yeah weird right! The thought of the canister stranding me never entered my mind. No more canister for me lol.

Three letters :D TBI! [And yes, I know it's not that simple as you have to pass smog and TBI's still have evap canisters, but still, I like to tease.]

Hahaha yeah yeah yeah you crazy local! Ive peeked at your setup a few times...

Do you know roughly what it cost you?

Im debating on doing tbi or a 5.3 swap. Ive looked around on ebay a bit at tbi stuff and jt seems like a couple hundred will get it done, maybe I should look on Craigslist.

Well, I went nuts with brand new everything, incl wiring harness, in a kit from Howell. If you get junkyard / used parts, then yeah, you can be a ton cheaper. I'm sure that for what I spent I coulda got a used L-whatever motor and then gone through all kinds of pain and hassle trying to make it work. (Look what RJFguitar went through with a "turnkey" setup from Pacfab, who are generally supposed to be a good vendor.)

Versus I set up my TBI, double-checked everything, and turned the key. It promptly started, and that was that. Not spectacular horsepower or zoomie noises, but she starts every time without excitement and runs good every time without excitement.

You might look at the various TBI conversion sites ... IH8MUD has a bunch of tech, actually, that I found informative even though I don't have a (fill in the blank: Heep, Yota, Binder.) My particular setup has no EGR, basically nothin', so you'd have to have more stuff to pass the test.
