73 K20....crossmember time

There is a line that runs from the gas tank to the cannister, then from the cannister to the carb. More than likely when the tank got hot it pressureized the cannister and shot the charcoal into the carb. been lurking .

Yeah that's what happened. sac is pretty close by!

Not into the fuel bowl.

Martin

Not sure about that. looking at the carb sections it seems like it makes contact with the bowl. It was after all pissing gas out of that port when the float was stuck. There's definitely a possibility that it shouldn't do that so maybe something wasn't built right.

yup... I haven't posted but, that makes NO sense. :dunno: that's a vac port it runs to, not a bowl feed of any sort...

I don't just chock that up to "oh well, it happened!"

I can see how it happened but I'm also looking at the truck. pics to come. If I had time to figure out exactly what happened I would but I'm extremely busy with school and work. Therefore the way to solve the issue is to get rid of it. I know some people have time for that crap but it's of no interest to me. provided the tank is venting right, the exhaust isn't aimed at the tank, smog crap gone and the carb is rebuilt properly it'll be a non issue.

Possible the hose was connected to the wrong port. Hard to say without looking at the whole carb with the hoses attached.

I'm pretty confident it's all hooked up right. pics soon.

At the top of this pic where the screwdriver goes off the page you can see the port in which the charcoal traveled. Seems like it goes right into the bowl through some passages.

Its the barb-like port on the left there.

Passages up towards the right...

From what I understand that is a fuel bowl vent, It vents fumes from the bowl to the charcoal canister when the engine is off. I think there is another line from the cannister to the PCV line that creates vacume to vent the line to the tank and the fumes from the cannister when the engine is running.

I definitely know which ones youre talking about. This line is definitely that fuel bowl vent.

I finally got the 465 out of the back of my other truck today. I also moved the k5 out of the way and went over it to see what needs to be done. It sure is screwed up. I was thinking id make a small wheeling trip in October but theres just too much to do. I need to get this thing running right first. Ill probably get a regular ol quadrajet, rebuild it and slap it on for the short term.

Got some of the road grime off...

Found some numbers.

Whats this connector for? Theres one on the top of the tranny too?

Took the bellhousing off so I didn't break it.

This bellhousing will work with novaks hydraulic kit, so thats awesome.

Shes a bit crusty but itll clean up...

Im happy to see everything looks new inside the tranny

Got my luck clutch in.

Poor bastard...

700r4 tears

So caved!

Still need to get a flywheel. Im thinking ill do solid motor mounts while the tranny is out as well. Took a bunch of pics of the smog crap. Its all coming off soon.

Ya, I think the plug on the T-case if for the dummy "4x4" light in the dash. Can't remember anything else.

Why would you have a reverse light switch in the column for a floor shifted 4 speed?

Martin

ohhhhhh
to be different

Where's the plug for the dummy light? I had one at one point lol

He was talking about the plug on top of the SM465. That is for the reverse lights.

The switch on the NP208 is for the 4x4 indicator lamp.
