73 K20....crossmember time

I worked on the fan setup today. Got rid of my clapped old fan...

I hate shrouds so im happy with the change...

Did a little trimming to the fan to make it fit better. Its pretty close to where i want it but sagging in this picture.

Finished up one of the mounts but i wasnt impressed. I needs have some design changes before im okay with it.

I have a few un-finished things to do to this truck before i wheel it next. Of course now im being egged on to go to Fordyce in 2 weeks so hopefully i make it! I really need to stop screwing around and get my sliders on. Time to get to work! Possibly my 3rd wheeling trip with out rear shocks lol!!

Sliders need to slide to the top of your list. It's all fun and games till ya mess up a rocker panel and then sliders are way harder to put on

Exactly. I've gambled enough lol. The only thing holding me back is I'm worried that if I choose to do a body lift (1 inch max) that they'll look goofy. I'm thinking I should put them right up to the pinch point on the body and when I body lift it'll look ok.

Probably the top 3 mods besides my locker and tires have been the sliders. Saved my ass and doors a bunch of times.

Definitely key to saving the door function. I mocked the sliders up today and im hoping I can make it happen. I hate how the body has its own frame work next to the real frame. just gonna have to do my best.

Well heres the pics of the slider mock up. Im going to have to run DOM tube at a slight angle from the frame to meet the slider.

Doesnt leave much room for gussets under there. I know ive seen a slider thread here before so maybe ill have to dig that up.

Since you have the same sliders at a similar design you might find this info helpful

I ended up with three different angles for my tie in's. IIRC it was something like 9, 14 & 17 degrees.

I don't think I'll have gussets but I plan on using some rubber mounts and tieing them into the cab.

Yeah i just went back and looked at yours. I dig how they came out. Unfortunately i have a bunch of goofy body-frame work covering about a third or more of the frame. I think i can make it work. :waytogo:

the good thing about those different angles is they actually add support. I can jump on mine and they barely move.

I did some more mock up on my sliders this afternoon. I feel like j have them where I want them. I think I had them a little far out from the body.

Ready to tack tomorrow. I need to make some shims to get it where I want it.

Started over again with a bunch of design changes. Hopefully this one is good or at least better.

Ready to make a few bends and its ready to try again.

I like that placement better as I thought you had them a little too far out on the first mock up as well. What are the shims for?

When you install this new custom bracket take some photos, I still can't picture where that's being used. Maybe on the side as a standoff?

look at those beautiful Rubicon badges :D

Haha yeah man! I was thinking about getting some stickers made so i can put truck vs trail with tally marks on the side of it lol. That or just sign all my dents with date, time and location :haha:

Yeah i think there a lot better now! The shims are just so i weld the legs on at the right angle. I didnt have anything thin enough last night so ill scrounge around today. 1/8 sheetmetal strips will do. One day ill have a damn welding table lol.

Yeah there will be plenty of pics. They essentially attach to the core support and reach out to the radiator side mounts. Im going to be trying this new one this afternoon.
