73 k5 blank slate

Great job on Brake & fuel lines...
I bought a ridiculously expensive terrible printed copy of a shop manual set.
Very disappointed at the blurred out print & photos...I always wondered if getting it in CD for would have been better

thanks, I had to hammer that back line bracket off the frame down a good bit given the new springs and 2in lift and I had to modify the L shaped bracket off the diff but it all went well. I am hoping the cd has an adequate section on the tx case. planning to print it off at work as more that a few minutes on the computer puts me in a bad mood. the 383 stroker I am looking at on blueprint makes well over 400 hp and ft/lbs of torque so my hope is it will be adequate to turn the 33's with the 3.08 gears

rear shocks are 2in short as well so I have to reorder those. was going to wait until I have the body on the frame so I can get all the measurements first... little things

What transmission will you use? A 400 takes more hp to run than a 350 but a 700r has a lower first gear.
You will definitely be downshifting to lower gears on uphill mountain grades

I'm using the stock 350 which I actually had rebuilt before the head gasket blew years ago. it's pretty flat around here so im thinking I will be ok

New drag link and tie rod in. Made 3lb deep drop fishing weights out of the old. With lead at almost 4 bucks a pound I might actually make money off this part of the build

I dumped mine for hydraulic assist cross over hi-steer but yours looks better than most I’ve seen...
That is going to be a very clean machine when you finish it.

Thanks, I would love to try some of the mods I see all over ck5 but I'm kind of overwhelmed just putting the stock machine back together... someday

There is nothing wrong with having one stock when you are doing such a great job on it as you are.

Sometimes avoiding the rabbit hole of modifications is just what you want in the end.

thanks guys, I appreciate the encouragement and would have never tried something like this without discovering the ck5 community. once you start going through the builds and see how someone can get stuck on a problem, only to immediately have someone post and instantaneously solve their problem, you start seeing what is possible. youtube can only get you so far. I still have a long way to go. the crate and wiring harness have me a little freaked out but while I wait for another paycheck or two I plan to do some research. once I get engine and drivetrain in, the tub will go to the local body shop(between my wife and kids, I get a volume discount). there's just too much rot and i'm not where I need to be to tackle it

I think that one of the best things to do when working on wiring is to plan on it taking a while. Deciding how to route the harness can take some time and experimentation. And try like hell to not be scared of it! The research that you are already thinking about will help you learn. I have seen several guys on here claim to hate any kind of wiring work, and then move along to do some very nice work!

Out of curiosity, why aren't you taking the tub to the body shop sooner? With the amount of work that you mentioned, it will take them a good amount of time to get it done. And do you have a cart or small trailer for the tub to sit on? I don't remember if you have posted about that.

My thought was to delay sending the tub so it could go right on the frame and be painted. I didn't want it sitting around collecting dust. I'm still working out details on how to put it on but the current plan is to lift it off the trailer with engine hoist on the back, tractor lifting front. Then roll trailer away, roll frame under tub, lower

so I ran the numbers with 33's and got 2038 rpm which places me just outside the sweet spot on the low side, rpm wise. 31's put me in the yellow zone and almost in the green. i'm thinking with 450ft lbs of torque (I know it depends on cam/where on the tach I get that) it will be enough for cruising even with the 33's. I plan to talk to the guys at blueprint before ordering so I can get a better idea and avoid surprises. thanks for sending the link. I learned a lot and it got me searching on this issue
