I'm using the stock 350 which I actually had rebuilt before the head gasket blew years ago. it's pretty flat around here so im thinking I will be okWhat transmission will you use? A 400 takes more hp to run than a 350 but a 700r has a lower first gear.
You will definitely be downshifting to lower gears on uphill mountain grades
thanks, i'll check it outhttp://businesspath.com/business_paths/auto/rpm-calc.html

Thanks, I would love to try some of the mods I see all over ck5 but I'm kind of overwhelmed just putting the stock machine back together... somedayI dumped mine for hydraulic assist cross over hi-steer but yours looks better than most I’ve seen...
That is going to be a very clean machine when you finish it.
There is nothing wrong with having one stock when you are doing such a great job on it as you are. Thanks, I would love to try some of the mods I see all over ck5 but I'm kind of overwhelmed just putting the stock machine back together... someday
That's actually a really good idea, did you put it back on that way?I used camper jacks...lol
so I ran the numbers with 33's and got 2038 rpm which places me just outside the sweet spot on the low side, rpm wise. 31's put me in the yellow zone and almost in the green. i'm thinking with 450ft lbs of torque (I know it depends on cam/where on the tach I get that) it will be enough for cruising even with the 33's. I plan to talk to the guys at blueprint before ordering so I can get a better idea and avoid surprises. thanks for sending the link. I learned a lot and it got me searching on this issuehttp://businesspath.com/business_paths/auto/rpm-calc.html
