That dizzy issue is wierd. Are you sure the timing chain is OK?
replace the dissy hold down or even replace the dissy. Then drive the balls off of it.

well you have two k5s so why not make one your reliable drive anytime truck, and take the other and build it. i would think to build the 73 so your not beating on the 1st gen. ideally neither one is a good DD if your having to drive that far.
maybe drive the taurus until you get your truck reliable like you want. keep it stock and just throw a nv4500 in there or something like that
. As for my '73, I'm thinking I'll take it slow. Get the motor troubles figured, and then consider my options for overdrive trans. I may do either the nv4500 or a 700r4 as i'm installing the lift this thing needs, and then worry about driveshafts all at once. Then I may start working on a cage design...my dad really wants me to have a cage if I'll be crawling.if he is gonna have the 71 as his DD why would he need yours as a DD?
you gotta keep it and run it man, unless you can use the taurus for school and just use the k5 whenever you go home, that will keep the miles from eating up your tires too.
It's topless weather now...i love it when girls go topless...
oh wait. i think we're on a different page here. lol.
how long before your back for summer?
hopefully i get my engine finished and in by next month so i can drive it all summer.

So can we expect lots of changes over the summer then?

I was getting out of Austin on Sunday, but couldn't get the truck to crank.
I have a feeling it's still that distributor hold down. When everything's right, the motor spins over easy, cranks every time. But now it's like it's fighting itself. And with it in a parking lot with only what basic tools I always have in the back, I can't do a whole lot.

Lets get some definitions nailed down here just to make sure we are all on the same page.
"cant get the truck to crank" this means many different things to different people.
If the engine wont "crank" the starter motor can not turn the crankshaft and that would prevent the engine from starting. In most service manuals this is called a "no crank condition"
The other type of situation would be a "no start condition". This would be when the starter motor is successfully turning the crank shaft at normal speed but the engine will not start.
So, in your case which situation are you experiencing?
No crank or no start?
Oh, and do you have a timing light?
Cheers,
Rufus
Congrats!Well, that being the case, go have fun with it!Congrats!

The hardtop NEEEDS to come off. and soon.
