Doesn't ORD/Ruff Stuff and the like have u-bolt flip kits for pretty cheap?

Dave needs the round cradles for the underside of the axle so he can retain the sway bar. A ubolt flip will not have a provision for the sway bar.

This....I know there is plenty for parts out there, but honestly this truck works very well suspension and braking wise I'm leaving those things as is....might add some overload bags for use with a camper, but those saddles will stay as part of the spring/swaybar bracket package. They are cast pieces and being a bit of an oddball they only used them a couple years before going to stamped steel pieces.

Make sure it's welded good, or see if one of the guys on here have a pull off laying around... wouldn't want that to re break towing the maiden on the interstate.... OE parts are ok... but having someone (or doing it yourself) fab up some steel cradle style ones that just replace that piece and retain your stock sway bar may be the best and safest route.

These have been broke a LONG time...there is considerable rust between the broken ears and the rest of the casting....and it is wedged in under the lower swaybar brackets, so it isn't going anywhere even broken (as its been sitting there broken for many years by the looks of it)...when the spring u bolts are tight it all gets pulled together and won't move.

GM 1350 vs Dodge 1410
The Dodge has a 1410 output yoke on the trans and input on the Dodge D70U
They are both 29spline count and same dimensionally except for the Ujoint saddle.

nice upgrade for the Cummins power

That's quite a bit of beef back there...

Ah... so there is still a plate under that one..... :waytogo:. Im not familiar with that sway bar deal so I was thinking that that plate is ALL that held the U-bolts lol. So real that's working as a cradling spacer then.... that's much better

So I convinced myself I need a lift to continue on in life with projects and rolling around on a creeper, jacking up bodies with floor jacks and 2x6's wasn't the way to go...I really didn't have a proper dedicated space for a lift, I'm in dire need of more storage/workspace so this is happening....

Looks to me like the broken piece is to keep the lower sway bar plate from being pulled up by the u bolt nuts....if that's the case I think a piece of 4" id .250 wall DOM should make a good replacement saddle by cutting about 1/3 of the circumference of the 4" DOM to fit the bottom of the axle tube and then welding some .625 id .250 wall tubing for the u bolts to pass through, and massaged to fit the 4" saddle.
Thoughts?

That's what I would prob do if it's not to easy to find another stock u-bolt plate. Make sure to add some little gussets like the stock one so the part where the u-bolts go through doesn't just bend up.

Wouldn't it be easier to find some used somewhere? This set up was used on any square with a sway bar, the only difference I've seen is the cast vs stamped cradle. I could be wrong but I think the same hardware was used on the c&c 14 bolts as I've pulled loose fitting cradles off of one of them too.

Otherwise, if you're going to fab something maybe just have Kert make some spring perches for 4" dia and put them under the tube (assuming you can make them sit flush/solid with the sway bar bracket).

I don't know for sure but I think the dana 70HD is larger tube diameter and might be harder to find saddles for but I don't know the specs and how hard stuff like this is to come by in your area.

Thats pretty much exactly the way I was thinking of making a replacement set:waytogo:

Yeah, it has 4" tubes vs the 3.?? of a 14 bolt, etc. Since the sway bar set up is typically on a dually with a D70HD any used parts he finds are almost guaranteed to fit.

I've looked on eBay and advertised on c/l and CK5 to no avail.
I'm not sure the steel cradles are the same design as these cast ones?
Making some up shouldn't be a big deal though, just need the time now!
