76 K5 Blazer Chalet - Put the ol girl out to pasture, literally.

That's along the lines of what I'm thinking. Steel frame, aluminum skin, maybe a couple of aluminum radius's on the front. Outer side storage for camping gear, ax, shovel, etc. Front of the camper boxed in and split. Top for interior bed space, bottom will be a pass through storage with exterior doors on both sides.

Wish I new something about cad. Probably what I'll do is get the camper off and get good measurements, then draw it out on some graph paper.

It will definitely take a while, so you'll probably beat me.

I do have the CAD knowledge and capabilities, it's what I do for a living but I still like the design process on paper, once I am done it will be transfered to CAD for final cuts.
I have about 5 other projects in the works before it but I really want to get on it soon, so we'll keep exchanging info and ideas. :thumb:

Brown!! breaks up all the black, and will be cooler ( as in temp )

Yep.

Got a little time before I order. Probably going to have the steering put back together on my 72 by Wednesday if the parts make it (new ps pump, gearbox, draglink and coupler), then I can bring the Chalet back up here and start tearing things up.

What color is the interior maybe one color will go better than the other I kinda like the brown maybe you can do brown and put some desert camo on it.

Interior is still factory tan / saddle.

I like this idea, but the black looks tough. Decisions, decisions. Don't think heat will be that big of issue because I will run without the top most of the time. Haven't had a top on my 72 in 2 years and its ok from 30 to 110 deg as long as its not raining. I do have a new appreciation for manual floor vents now though.

Got a little bored today and decided to heck with it.....

First, off with the bumper.

Wiring was easy. Just unplugged the light harness, snipped the two 12v power wires to camper, and unbolted the ground.

Off with the camper.

Looks kind of sad and lonely with no Chalet..

Few surprises. This is the first, guess I know now where the water was coming from.

Leaked like a sieve when I got it, I took the windows out and resealed them and also sealed all the bolts that hold the popup on. Still would be a little water in the floor that I couldn't figure out.

All that caulk was around the top when I bought it, was probably a bad idea from the get go as it just trapped water.

Hmmmm....looks to me like a great reason to make your rig a full-convertible now........just sayin'.

eek. Put it back.:eek1:

No caulk on my former Chalet, but some kind of utterly dried out rubber pad strip, and I could see beginnings of rust happening up there. Chinook's design was not well thought out.......
