76 K5 Blazer Chalet - Put the ol girl out to pasture, literally.

well its been a week or 2, how goes it?

Assembling parts right now. Ordered in a ord body lift and new body mounts, swapped some springs for another rear axle, and when it goes down going to do something about the steering column. But, I'm going to probably drive it for a month or so as is.

Still need to work out what I'm going to do about a rear seat for the kids. Think I'm just going to bite it and buy a prp 48" bench and get a cage built.

The carb on my 72 has been acting up for a while and I haven't driven in it in a month or so. Pulled it today and going to send it to Jet for some r&r. Once its on the road again, I'll put the Chalet back under the knife.

I'm glad to hear that the top is nice and quiet. Thats unexpected.

You go huntin?

Killed a little scrubby looking cull 8 point and small doe. Ground those suckers up last Thursday here at the office and put about 40 #'s of sausage in the freezer.

mmmmmmm

I have yet to cash in a kill this year. Hog hunt in February though and maybe a gator hunt too, hopefully I get somethin then.

S&W is having a 10% off sale on all their cages through the end of the year, you should give them a call about one of their blazer cages :thumb:

Haven't touched this much lately. Been driving it a little bit even though the wheel seal leaks pretty good. Figure I'll drive it like that til it goes as its apparently toast anyway. Had a good time in the ice, the thing is a little trickier than a crew cab psd that I dd. Little bit of extra brake or gas and your sideways on the slick stuff.

Dispatching a freight operation in all this ice/snow we've had for the last week got me a little frazzled so I decided to tackle the body mounts and 1" body lift. Plan is to get the body lift done, find a decent rear seat, then find a shop to build a cage and shorten the rear bumper. Don't think I'll put the camper back on, might even sell it as it seems like I have less and less time to work on **** these days.

Anyway halfway done with the body lift. It's not too bad once you figure out what's going on.

Driver side #5 mount was loose and came right apart. Passenger side one took some coaxing from a cutoff wheel and bfh. This little booger held me about an hour and a half.

Have the passenger side done, just not torqued. Will tackle the driver side tomorrow. Figure it will take me about 10 hrs by the time I'm done. Right now passenger side is 3.5" higher than the driver, figure that will even out to about 1.5" to 2" by the time I get the other side done and tighten everything down.

Quick question on the softtopper, did it come with a new seal for attaching to the back of the cab? I'm planning on ordering mine soon, just wondering if I should order new seals first...

It does come with a seal. I put off buying one of those for a while due to the cost, but am glad I spent the money on it. It's a good product.

Your chalet is looking good. I saw you last saturday at teasley and I-35 sitting at the light. I turned to go north on 35 in the silver and black pete pulling the spread axle reefer. looking good

Thanks. Must have been when I was coming back from the square after getting my ears lowered. I'm in trucking too, so usually notice trucks. Think I remember wondering what a big truck was doing on Teasley with the construction that have right there by Brookshires. Maybe that was you.

Beautiful weather today, so drove the Chalet home. Need to run the gas out so I can drop the gas tank again. Tooling along on a 2 lane about 55 and truck coming at me loses a ladder(I didn't see this). Person behind him locked it up and swerved completely into my lane. All I could think was "****, I'm going to run over her" I see her, hammer the brakes and shoot for the shoulder. Couldn't have missed her by more than 6 inches, wheel caught the grass and I flipped once. Still a little wound up, nerves are kind of frazzled. Never rolled a truck before.

I'm happy I missed the lady. Head on with her in the honda and me in the Chalet wouldn't have been good for her.

Part of me says - good thing you pulled the camper off before you wrecked it.
Part of me says - you've been trying to decide for awhile wether to keep the 72 or the 76, looks like you're keeping the 72
Biggest part of says be happy your kids weren't in the back. Just had it in to Baertrax offroad this week to get measured for a 10 point cage as I won't haul my kids in it for safety reason.
Big part of me doesn't feel like dicking with the insurance. I carry liability only, hers should cover it and I have the police report, but it's prob going to be a whippin.

Pics don't show it but passenger side door pretty boogered up and back of cab where it rolled is caved in. Axles looked straight, batteries came out so truck died. Was loosing coolant, but other than that prob could have started it and drove home.

Full convertible conversion and tube door time? I dunno.

exept for the top it looks dam good still. Its also already got all the right hardware. do the cage n go full vert:waytogo: glad your ok man.

glad your ok, and the Honda lady too, sucks bout the rig though....time to truggy?

Thats a real bummer man, it would suck after all that work. I got to admit though, that things a tank, you rolled it and it doesn't really look that bad, I'm sure it's worse when you look at the details though. Sorry to hear it.

Wow, could have been so much worse... It's amazing, the photos don't show more damage...

Looks the the tailgate survived, how were the batteries mounted? is the soft top shot?

interesting to see what got bent and what didn't, glad you ok and for the most part the truck seems to have somewhat survived.

Geeze louise, glad you are ok, and make sure someone goes after the guy who didn't properly secure the ladder. One could preach about people who follow vehicles hauling unsecure loads and how to keep their eyes on them to avoid such accidents, but that's a different lecture.

Perhaps also a good time for economic stimulus for the betterment of the country.... ya could purchase a newer Blazer & mod it the same way, with some kind of clever removable rollbar so that it could also have the camper put on it. :waytogo:
