77 The Black Truck "Ratbag"

Can’t do it! It stays.

7de7 is going instead.

Question is do I swap the 410 rear ends out of the 7de7 for the 373s out of Ratbag or just sell it the way it is and save the work?

Just sell. You open that can of worms and cost yourself money

I hate to see either go, but you just can’t off a rat bag

Fair enough Mark. Thanks!

The 7de7 means nothing to us...except it is a original k20 that you just don’t find around here anymore, But the body is shot, still fixable but a cab swap would be best for it.

did you ever find out what was going on with the loose 14bff in ratbag? seems like there was a bang and something felt loose to ya????

Its been Ok ever since it locked up after our burn out...howls a bit under load, but It always has since I put it in. Dan has another 14 bolt I can have. But I don`t know what gears are in it yet it`s a c20 frame from 81up? It`s full float. 373`s have worked ok for me in the past with 35s and a 456 trans. I don't think I would go any bigger tire than that anyways.

Did they make 14bff's with higher gears than 3.73's?
I haven't seen one, lots of 4.10's and a few 4.56's and 3.73's.
I've never seen a 3.42 or higher in one.
I had a 3.73 one in my old 78 K20 plow truck. The rear axle housing was bent and it made a howling noise as well. I checked the fluid, it was black, so I changed it and plowed w it for a couple years. Tough pieces!

Good question for @82355, pretty sure I've heard of an oddball 3.21 before. But he'd know for sure

My burb currently has 3.42s ( rpo sticker haven't verified) and a FF 14 bolt. It's weird the 2 wd 3/4 tons got a FF and 4x4s got a SF

The old mans 77 camper special came with 3:21s from the factory fwiw.

I think your making the right choice Dean :saweet:
