Hey gang, finally getting on to a computer here. Kerts laptop.
Adam, gotta admit to ya now, we've had a little fun at your expense...Eric used my 76 CC dually to haul Horton to BB11. He started hearing an engine noise, thought it was possilby a lifter going away, then maybe something more, so they were in a convoy with Russell, and he hooked up Erics tralier and put my dually on it to deal withonce they got here. Kert checked the oil, put 3 qts in it ,and oil pressure is 30# hot going down the road, and the engine sounds good. So we think its ok now. We will be giving it a major tune while its here in Moab.

We had a long exhausting trip getting here, the 99 6.0 did a great job...definitely down on power in the mountains, but still pulled 7mpg through there. The trip probably averaged about high 7-low 8's. Kerts gang was a great relief to see...as he mentioned we whipped up a few items that I hadn't had a chance to get to before leaving Monday at 11am...took 14 hours to get to his place, and I was a Zombiewhen I got there. we kicked it for a couplehours, and crashed, 6hourslater we were on the road again....24 hours laterwe were in MOAB! 1950mi. from my house here!
The Maiden has performed quite well, have a couple leaks that we are dealing with, had a rear axle seal go, and took apart the hub to find the outer bearing hammered out of its cage...I suspect I ddin't have the bearing race seated correctly, allowing it to be way too loose in the hub. Anyhow, we (Eric, Keith Blazer, Russell (man I swear that guy has every tool you'd need with him) Keith's brother, Russells buddy who ran for parts 3 times, and Kert and his son Jimmy)....all pitching in, in a motelparking lot to get it fixed. Man how cool is CK5 guys to help with stuff like this? We had to file the spindle smooth, and emery cloth it to be good enough for a new race, and seal. Got those put on tonight, then went to the BBQ tonight. tomorrow kert and I will finish it up and wheel a short trail and get ready to run Pritchett on Sunday. That will be the big test of how well everythng works....We also had to shim the D60 kingpins to get rid of some death wobble, found a leak on the piston between the master cyl and the hydro boost, that we are just watching for now. And I have a small transmission to adapter leak that will require removal of the transfer cases once again to fix it. So for now we're just wathching the trans fluid level.

To everyone who has helped make this thrash become a reality, I can't thank you enough. To all the CK5 members watching this go on, I hope this thread is bringing you some entertainment, enjoyment, and maybe a little boost to get your project where you want it to be....finally realizing the result of the last 2 years of work is so cool. To wheel this thing is absolutely cool. I know its nothing different than what is already out there, and not as capable as a lot of other rigs, but its my truck, and its finally able to wheel. I am very please with what its capabilities are, I'm sure I am the biggest limiting factor right now. It seems to do so much with ease I am amazed by it.
Kert and I are taking a less hectic approach to this weekend, enjoying some relaxing time as well as wheeling...WEd we finished up a few things to get ready for trails.
Thursday we ran hells revenge, which about made me **** my pants when we went up the first fin....a long climb up the backof a rock formation, muchlike the lions back....probably a hundred foot drop on each side, and without Kert watching the pass side tires, Iwould have freaked out....but after we got past that it was a blastout in the trail. the Maiden performed really good, had a slight brake fluid leak... and the axle seal leak had started at that point. we decided to keep an eye on it, but after playing today in BFE we got back to camp and it was dripping outof the seal. we had to check itout.
WE got to play around a bit though withit today, and was anxious to do another trail, but timing just wouldn't allow it, and we decided to fix the leak instead. good thing with the bearing issue that was going on...much longer and we would have not been able to save the spindle. We changed the bearings races and seal on that spindle and dumped the fluid from the rear diff....it was glittery, but didn't have any bits of metal in it like the bad side did, so we will run it as is with new fluid, and I'll dissasemble the rear from side to side when I get it home.

Tomorrow Kert and I will get the rearend buttoned back up, and hit a shorter trail with someone to shakedown the Maiden some more before Pritchett on Sunday.
I had intentions of posting up some GoPro video, but I forgot to bring the instruction manual, and all the attachments for it, and am having a hard time trying to figure out if its even working or not. We have used it some, but can't get it to download on Kerts laptop....His son has been taking some pics of the Maiden in action, I got into a hottub, and because I had 30# in the tires had a hard time getting out, but made it on the third try. It was a blast. we will get some pics up eventually, but may have to wait til I get home to do the videos.

the 76 C30 is a CrewCab dually that Eric has been shopping around for me and found this one as Adam pictured above....I've got to drive it some while here, and really like it, can't wait to get it home and turn it into my new tow vehicle....I'll pick it up in two weeks at Erics in Idaho, and drive it back to MI...another 454/T400 combo

So my brothers, I'm living the dream here in Moab....thanks for all those who've helped not only physically, but also with advice and support....I literally couldn't have done this without you.

later Zim

forgot to mention I brought my winch to mount at Kerts, but forgot the control box, and batt. cables so that didn't get put on, I've been running higher tire pressure so I don't blow a bead, as we did'tn get the spare mounted up.
And there are also a bunch of guys who drove their first gen blazers here from Mich.
they went throught the black hills then came to BB11...met them tonight, and they have 5-6 rigs that are very clean. They are from the Port Huron area....great to meet them.

Adam, gotta admit to ya now, we've had a little fun at your expense...

Awesome update Zim!

You drove just about as far as Russel to get there.:eek1:

Glad you are all having fun... the pics are great keep them coming guys!:thumb:

Awesome man!

...and thank you for clearing up the confusion!

Nice score on the C30! Good to hear that everyone is having a good time and working together.

Do yourself a favor Dave, before you leave gather all the fellas that made this trip possible and take a group pic with that beautiful Moab background. Later on you'll be glad you have a pic like that. :pimp: :thumb:

Glad to see you made and are not having any major problems that can't be fixed.
Looks like to much fun, just enjoy the fruits of your labor and all the help you got to make it happen.:waytogo::bow::bow:

Send more pics!

X 1 gajillion...

Once you are back home, you will wish you had more pics no matter how many you actually took. A scenery shot near sunset with your trucks in the scene would end up as your desktop image for the next year ( at least! ) :pimp:

:usaflag:

Good luck to you guys on prichet today, I'm out of here and headed home with some scenic stops on the way today.

Nice meeting ya:thumb:

So we should call you bitch from now on.:D
Or hairy leg bitch.

SORRY had to do it.

Glad you are posting Daves pics.
Very cool!

Zim here on Kerts login:

I've got a pic on my cell, that I can't seem to figure out how to upload to the thread, but Adam can handle it, so yeah, he's been gracious enough to put em up...I'll send more tomorrow and see if he can put em up.
I got one of 5-6 trucks up on Gold Bar Rim, and its pretty cool...Blazinzuk, Russell, KGBlazer, Chris Perry, and a couple I can't remember right now.

Kert has been putting a bunch up of the wholetrip in the BB11 section, check those out too.''

The Maiden has performed pretty good, the only casualties were minor in the whole scope of the build....that makes me pretty happy. We are still fighting a death wobble, and I will put another shim in the kingpins when I get home for a quick fix, then probably go with a bronze bushing and hydro assist in the future.
The axle seal/bearing is working fine now. the ring and pinion looked real good, and the temps are about equal on both sides of the axle now. and no leaks.
The minor brake leak has fixed itself thankfully. and the problem with the serpentine belt was taken care of with a shorter belt. All was good today except the driver...I needed to be winched up Chewy (on Pritchett), then back down as we decided to turn around due to possible problems with Russells t/c....it was a butt puckering trip up and down Chewy, Eric makes it look easy but for the rest of us....it was a huge challenge. We were in a second group going through Pritchett, and we were pretty much noobs compared to the first group. My thanks and appreciation to Eric for leading us through it, and helping Me especially taking a good line, and helping me to feel confident enough to give it a try.
Later in the after noon we played on a small climb and had some fun before we left Pritchett....then we went to potato salad hill...Eric of course made it look easy, then Chris Perry took it on without issure then Keith made it up, but having problems with a carb'd engine, I give it a shot, and after the third time, I decided I didn't need to get into something beyond my driving capability, so I backed down. I too was having carb problems....Potato salad is pretty steep at the top, and I would start spinning, then have trouble with fuel delivery, the engine would die, and then I had a hard time with brakes to hold it, with no engine power to the hydro boost.
Overall Moab and BB11 was a dream come true for me and my build. I thank so many once again for their help, and for Kert to make the trip with me, and help me with mechanical issues as well as driving on the trail.
The maiden is an awesome truck I think, and I am very happy with it.

We head out tomorrow when we get all packed up and I should be back home by late Wed night. til then later brothers, and just gotta say, you really need to make this trip some year...its an awesome adventure, and seems like there is a seat available in a rig if you don't or can't bring your own.
