Dis is fun watching heath and dave argue...

Ive never run my 208 in low. And i imagine your doubler brings you to a much lower ratio. You should try a higher gear next time, then you wouldn't have to rev it up to the limiter, and i doubt that big block will bog out much, if so you can just slam it back in 1st gear.So you ran in low most of the day dave? I usually run everything in high no problem.

with 500 HP i hope it doesn't bog. When I had a very tired 350 in my k5 I would run in low cuz it would bog like crazy, but since it was a 241 it was almost to low.

I don't like a term that doesn't apply, so in that realm of thinking.....I guess 4:1 would be overkill for a mall crawler anyway..I used 2:1 dave, (I don't have 4:1 but don't really need it for my truck), 2:1 works pretty well for the dunes with my 4.10 gears. I modified my governer to shift around 5500, so I just leave it in D and let it do it's thing.
And I don't have any chips or a dial either, I change it in the handheld screen. But I'm still going to say chip it and you're going to like it!![]()

Mine is studded also, but I just don't see any reason to spin it harder than 5K...OK, maybe I'll turn it to 5500 then.Fwiw, I used to race my old truck at local mud bogs. That 454 had a cast crank, 2 bolt bottom end and I turned it to 6500-6800 regularly (once a month race with multiple passes + occasional wheeling). Knock on wood, that motor lasted 3 years and was healthy when I sold it. Point being, don't sweat 6k.
I also agree with Heath on the rev limiter, don't kill it while it's still making power. If it peaks around 5k then it's probably still making good numbers till around 5500. My new motor peaks a little over 4k but it still makes great numbers up to 5k, I plan to chip it around 5000-5200.

Just good info Adam....I know Heath is a drag racer, so rpm is king there, and although I like rpm myself, I think I'm losing nothing by shifting at 5K, it drops right back into the middle of the torque curve at 3500, so what's to loose? Again, this ain't a drag tank...Dis is fun watching heath and dave argue...![]()
I ran in 2:1...mid range for me, and with 4.56's 39.5's and 1.48:1 2nd gear I thought it worked real good.So you ran in low most of the day dave? I usually run everything in high no problem.
No problem with bogging...I think I only hit the rev limiter was when I was down on the flats, going through the gears.Ive never run my 208 in low. j/k mang, if my truck looked as good as yours, I'd be leary about crawlin with it too.
I also have a full manual v/b so I control it....basically at the base of the hill I'm at about 2500rpm in 2nd gear 2:1 range, then nail it to get it up to speed and load while climbing the hill, tops out about 4500 when doing it that way, and never shift gears...even as I'm nearing the top of the hill and momentum has slowed down, sometimes the sand would grab the tires and try to stop them, but a quick blast or two of the throttle would be plenty to get over the top, again without having to change gears.

Tell them JJ @ Classic Dash sent you
They can make a full custom tank to your measurements and i think he can even do it with factory pick-ups

You rang!![]()
this is Dave's part isn't it?
