Every good event needs one exibitionist run to grenade something spectacularly!

Slap it in, pour a can of Slick 50 down it's throat, and find a good set of whoops to drag race on:burnout: :saweet::thumb:
I’m not looking for more work Rick! And if I went flying across to bunch of hoops I don’t think it would be the tranny letting go

It's more work anyway If you use that one now lol. Id do it once with the built trans and miss a dune fest. There will be more of them. But changing a trans twice would suck.

I was just kind of going along with the few others that sort of mentioned your motor may kill that spare trans...... :D
So if it's gonna die, it should go in style, making a story to circulate on here for ever lol:waytogo:.

But seriously I'd skip this year, build it right and do it once. See if your tranny guy can suggest something by that takes about twice your power. That way it's solid. Losing a trans climbing some big chit in Moab or a huge dune would equal a bad day.

As for the whoops I was thinking back to drag racing John in the quarry lol

Yeah that broke the case because I had tension on the doubler from the skid plate in the opposite direction of the engine torque.

Hell yeah!

It’s looks to be the same output I’m using now!
Just check the stick out length from one to the other

So after tear down all I’m finding is a few bad bushings and plastic endplay washers.
Clutches look pretty good but you can tell the forward pack got hot, probably because the endplay wasn’t right as the spacer washer got ate up

Impressive dave. So if you are tearing apart that trans, why didn't you just build the other one?

This one has a bunch of upgrades in it already
FRMVB, Torrington bearings, HD intermediate support snap ring, 6 disc direct clutch etc.

Point I’m rebuilding the trans that was in the Maiden
I think the torque convertor shit the bed and that is the main issue
I will go through everything though and hopefully not screw it up!

The 208 shaft should be closer to 2" longer than the 203 shaft (with respect to stick out).

nope, its 2 -1/4 out of the back of the case, the 203 is 1-1/4
.got all the trans parts ordered this am, hope to have everything for the build by tomorrow....hope it turns out good!

Might want to check the thrust on the crankshaft, if the torque converter balooned enough to do that to the trans it may have wiped out the thrust bearing. Or did the converter come apart and plug the filter? There are signs of lack of fluid flow.

Make sure you replace the coolers as well, all of that metal probably plugged them solid.

Convertor wasn’t ballooned and it looks physically ok.
I’m sending it to Greg Ducato to cut open and inspect.
I had my trans guy replace 6 bushings that were questionable and a put a new set of gears in the pump, as the outer surface of the ring gear was rough and could start flaking off bits of metal.
It is getting new metal thrust washers and selective washers as needed to closely set the end play to make sure everything operates correctly.
I will use the same clutch packs as they really look good and they are the waffle type good ones. No need for replacement, just clean and oil em up. Planetaries, drums, sprag, pistons, bands all look good.
So for inspecting and rebuilding the pump, and replacing 6 bushings he charged me $40 labor.
I purchased a new GM HD custom convertor built by Greg, and gasket and seal kit, a new shift shaft, thrust washer kit, bushing kit, and pump gears, 15 qts Fluid and a new auxiliary filter.
I will replace my auxiliary filter (remote mount Napa gold spin on) and flush the lines and auxiliary cooler and check for debris that may have gotten past the filter.
Total parts and labor paid is @ $604

Got a good mock up assembly today on the clutch packs, and now finally ready to put this puzzle together. Had to chase down a few steels to get the clutch pack clearances right. Ended up @ .027 for the forward w 5 frictions, .060 for the direct w 6 frictions and .035 for the intermediate pack. Hopefully I have everything I need for assembly this weekend.

Damn Dave. That's a lot of stuff to go back into that case.
