I'll just cut that one off Heath....simple enough to do.
I think my old caps were in pretty bad shape.
We'll check the pinion angle and such when Eric gets here, and see what if anything needs to be changed, my concern is the tires rubbing the firewall/inner fenders, and if I can simply move the axle forward an inch to do it before driveshafts are made up.

Dave I found it in a bucket last night if you want me to bring that cap, it's a little rusty but if you sandblast it, it would be good as new. Although I would probably either buy a new one, or cut that arm off since your rig is so nice. Would you like me to bring it along?

As for moving it forward an inch, you can decide that later too. You can always have ht eback driveshaft made up and then go out and flex and turn it in 2WD and see if it needs to move. But even it if it doesn't, if you move it forward, you just increased your entry angle a little bit anyway.

No Heath, I'll just hack this arm off. Thanks though.

I'll wait on the movement of the front for now too, just too much critical stuff to get done, before stuff I can do at a later date.

Got some rear attachment hardware painted today, and the rear axle sandblasted and zinc'd

Yeah, thats what I have too, so thats a plus.
So when redrilling (to move the axle forward 1"), the spring perch and/or the top spring retainer plate, do you need to move the hole in each one by 1/2" or just the lower perch to the rear by 1"?

To move the diff forward:

Mark, center punch and drill a second hole in each perch 1" back from the original hole.

If you have aftermarket top plates like Kurts the top plate is likely already slotted and you're done. If you have stock cast top plates you'll need to mark it 1" back from the exisitng divot and use a largish drill bit (3/4" or so) to create a second clearance divot for the center bolt head. It doesn't need to be a through hole, just mimic what is already there.

Dave.... I don't know but I think your rig is too clean for me to work on. :thumb:

That will move it 1" then right. I had to actually go look. I was confused some trying to think about it:rolleyes:

If you get it dirty, it'll clean up...hell its still got metal dust all over the engine/trans and doubler. Its no virgin anymore.
And I've knicked the paint already too.

O come on man, you gotta stop this, im running out of KY.. haha:haha:

Oh to be young, dumb, and full of...well, you just keep that to yourself OK:waytogo:

Yes, it's a bit confusing to drill the new hole 1" back to move the diff 1" forward. :waytogo:

Rene

Only in my mind....:haha:

the bolts in these springs don't line up so good with the stock upper plates, so I'm going to get a set of Kert's D60 plates to make the switch, then all I have to do is drill one hole, and I have a bit big enough for that one. Sweet.
Thanks again O guru of the suspension from the great white north:waytogo:

Keep up the good work dave. Its almost time for the meet and gre.... build.

CK5peeps that are riding with me pm me or give me a call to finalize plans soon.

I'm keeping on it Jess.

Today I got the rear axle in, shocks on, and gas tank in.
Still going to need to finalize shock and spring mounting after the body is on it.

The axle in place:

This is some dense foam sheet that I used for padding between the tank and straps and my location brackets welded to the frame.

Ironmaiden214.jpg

The tank is moved UP 3" and forward about 2" to help clearance in the rear.

The fuel valve and line:

And the rolling frame again: wahoo.

Wow Dave, looking good. Everything is way too clean for an offroad truck!

Jess, I'll be in touch. I plan on riding with you.

Yep, gotta take the trans apart to check a couple things, and the 205 to put a spacer ring in, and change the front output....I got that stuff written down somewhere of what I need to do. Hopefully I can knock them out this weekend, and start on the under body prep by Monday. Some things are getting shuffled around to try and get the body on in the next week. I need another week off.

Going to have a Build and Greet on April 9th at my house to work on the Maiden and have some free Chicago Style deep dish pizza.
Eric will be here, and we'll be building/working on stuff all weekend, so if you can make it to my house, and want to wrench on something or stand around and critique what is going on, come on over. I have a small course with a few simple obstacle things to play on in the field if you want to bring something along for that too.
We'll get started maybe 10am, and knock off when we feel like it.
If you need directions PM me. I'm bout 1/2 way between Chicago and Detroit, along I-94...exit 85

Just a reminder this is 2 weeks away.:thumb:

man wouldn't it be cool to have a Blazer Bash build off....two teams going for it for a week to see who could build the baddest Blazer/truck.

I messed around trying to clean up my mess from this past week with painting and parts all over....need to organize before moving on. Hopefully more updates this w/e.
