This is the frame boxing kit that Kert has been working on.

I believe this kit is for a shortbox p/u.

I will be using what I can on the Blazer frame, and making templates to send to Kert so he can make a kit for the Blazers'. Cool stuff Kert.

Before I even reach this part of the post, I was thinking "those look like a kit for a P/U. Did he get shipped the wrong kit?" Then read it was indeed a kit for a pick-up and you going to help make a kit for the 73-77 blazers.

Well waiting for parts sucks....still waiting on the frame from the strippers, He couldn't get it in the oven to bake before acid dipping it, so he wants to leave it in the acid tank over the weekend, so hopefully I'll get it back early next week. Kert, I'm sorry for the holdup.
I'm also waiting on the gears from Richmond to come, so I can hopefully finish up the rear axle, and set it aside.
I've been working on the rear diff for the Vette, my daughters car, blowing snow out of the driveway, helping my daughter move (again). So its not like I'm slacking off....OK, I'm just trying to justify my non-posting sorry ass.

If there is anything left of it. :yikes:

We can all relate. I can't believe I have been working on this stupid truck for well over 2 years and there is still sooooooo much to do. Oh well, enjoy the journey right?

Yeah, I feel like I ain't done sh!t, got the shop cleaned up, waiting on the frame, got Kerts Kit for it, just need to get that sucker home. And now the weather has turned to sh!t, so I'll need to wrap the frame up in a tarp to protect it coming home. PITA, I just hope it turns out like I expect it to. The other parts I got back are completely clean of any rust, paint, etc. just bare metal with a acid etch to them. Real nice to start work with.

No Brian....still waiting for them, I hope to hear today when I should get them. My rearend guy ordered them directly from Richmond, they were to drop ship so I'm hoping REAL soon. Glad your back.

I thought MobyDick would be appropriate after seeing the Blue hood, and White body of my K5.....
but after watching VH-1's Metal Mania the last few nights, I feel its more appropriate to rename my project IRON MAIDEN.....due to all the iron: 454...203/205....D60....14BFF....thats alot of Iron.....and she's my bitch.
Hopefully it won't be the other way around.

Sounds like a Bill and Ted reference. :waytogo:

Here is your hood ornament and/or shifter:

Sweet, I like it....where to get one made?
Zombies, Iron clad skulls, I'm diggin this overtone already.

Got my gears from my diff guy today....he had them Thursday evening, but part of his business is also snow removal. Well he had been on that til Friday night, then he said he died for 10 hours....he called me today about noon, so I picked em up today. I'm going to the Bears/Packers game tomorrow, hopefully I can get the pinion set up at work on Monday evening, and get the ring pattern worked out on Tuesday.

I just found that one with a google image search. It is a close up of an Eddie action figure (from the Piece of Mind album IIRC). I'm sure they must be out there. I made a clay sculpture of Eddie in art class back in High School. I still have it somewhere...I think.

New Ring and Pinion

Got the new gear set installed today.

Pressed the bearing/spacer/bearing on the new pinion last night at work, and installed into the pinion housing. Using the old pinion nut, and hitting it a little at a time with a 3/4 drive impact, the rotating torque for bearing preload was set at 12 in/lb.
Installed the pinion seal, and torqued the new pinion nut so bearing preload torqued measured 15 in/lb. These are used bearings so that should work out great.

Here is the new ring gear pattern.
It has .008/.009 backlash and preload specs per the GM service manual.
The new install kit I got also had some more shims in it, so I started out with .010, and now am up to .015.

How does the pattern look. Brian are you out there?

I got my frame back today, had to haul it home on wet, salty roads, wasn't to pleased about that, but its home again.

I trial fitted some of Kerts boxing kit on it, keep in mind this is for a shortbox p/u, and we are working on a Blazer kit out of this. If anyone has any suggestions about the kit or the process of getting Kert the info he needs to make this kit, let myself of Kert know about it.
There is also a thread in the Vendor forum about his boxing kit. Please check there too, as there may be info there that isn't here.

Save the templates and identify them somehow. Front to rear or whatever. That's about all you need to do.

If you want to complete the templates where the Short box kit doesn't work and send them to me I can cut your pieces.

thanks Kert, I was thinking that ring gear pattern looked good too. Its so much easier to see the changes made on a new set, than a used set.

I'll save the templates, maybe even make new ones once I get the front pieces tacked on, and can reference from them. I'll get more input from you, as I make them.
