Thought so, anywho, I got some tube ordered today from a race chassis builder (you should meet this guy Eric...he runs a Top Sportsman car)

This is a car he built:

anyhow, he can get 1.75 DOM, 1.5 EWS, and 1.25 EWS cheaper than the local steel supply joint.
He put in an order today, and I'll get that when it comes in, but tomorrow I'll go see what the local place has for 2x6 and 2x2 we talked about for the boatsides/rock sliders.
I also got Kert working on a rear recovery setup for me....and a bunch of the custom cage stuff we talked about....more building parts coming in! Wahoo.
Got my oil coolers and lugnuts in today, and had some gas tank mods made.

Whats the price of 1.75 dom out there just curious? It may be worth the drive for me since I'll be ordering more than 100ft of it.

He said he can definitely beat the 5.98/ft that ALRO wants for 1.75/.120 DOM...that's the only place around here that I can find it, so a call to Tom netted me a better deal, as he gets a break in price from his supplier (don't know who that is) and it's shipped to his shop, so I only need to get to him to pick it up. How soon you needing it Jess?

2nd week of march most likely. It may be worth it for me to order it from Alro over here unless its like 4 bucks a foot.

Jess, I think I lost a postup for his pricing...

He said right now he'd be about 5.50 a foot for the 1.75/.120 DOM to sell it outside the shop. He got me in for about $5.00/ft because it was added to an order he had going already, and I've dealt with him on other stuff. He don't really want to get into turning over tube...its more hassle than its worth for him, because of time, and only making .50/ft on it. This is his 3rd business, so time is money for him in a big way.
He's willing to do it, but not sure it's worth it to drive over here for .50/ft.

Going to have a Build and Greet on April 9th at my house to work on the Maiden and have some free Chicago Style deep dish pizza.
Eric will be here, and we'll be building/working on stuff all weekend, so if you can make it to my house, and want to wrench on something or stand around and critique what is going on, come on over. I have a small course with a few simple obstacle things to play on in the field if you want to bring something along for that too.
We'll get started maybe 10am, and knock off when we feel like it.
If you need directions PM me. I'm bout 1/2 way between Chicago and Detroit, along I-94...exit 85

I'll have to see when my buddy's planning on heading up around then. Might be helping them move.

I'm in dave for the wrench fest! I just checked with the local steel place I have an account with over here. 1.75 .120 wall costs me 5.05 a foot so I think I'm good.

Good deal AJ, hope you can make it man.

Cool Daryl said he's coming too, and bringing JR!
That's a pretty good price on the DOM Jess. its about what my chassis guy gets it for I think.

Hahaha thats gonna be a long ass drive for Daryl in Jr. I may have to bring my dmax just incase he needs to be towed home.

I got all my steel now for the construction of cage/miniboat sides/sliders. All total for steel for these projects including the S&W cage($900) is about $1500. I'm sure I will have way more than we need, but had to make sure I didn't run short. I'm still getting some of Kerts' cage tie in's to go along with it.

2x6x.250 for the sliders
2x4x.250 for the tie in/bracing for sliders/boatsides
1.75x.120 DOM for more cage work
1.50x.120 DOM for more cage work
1.25x.120 DOM for seat/console/accessories mtg.

The tank mods include cutting out the center section to lower it by almost 2", and a new fuel inlet pipe. With the results I had on my exhaust, I didn't want to try to weld this stuff to an even thinner gauge of metal, so this got sent to a local shop...$85 for these mods, and a couple puncture patches on the tank too.

Get that painted up and it will work awesome. And I am surprised you were able to get a weld shop to weld on a used fuel tank!

It was acid dipped last year, and has had no gas in it since, he made sure of that. He found the puncture hole that was repaired and he redid it, the other he had to just put a quick spot on it with the TIG to seal it. We pressure tested it to about 20# with some soapy solution, and its tight now.

I've seen it done before, purged with pure argon, or constant circulation of water.

Even with water its dangerous. I have never purged one with pure argon but I have nearly burned myself very bad doing the water thing.

Thing about water and gas fumes is the water helps spread the fire. Least it did in my case. I had even washed the tank out half a dozen times with water and let it sit for 2 weeks.

Acid dipped will certainly remove any gas though
