More work on the cage today.
And Rick (Shady) cruised in about 3pm, and jumped on cutting out the rockers for the sliders, and working on taking the factory seat mounting brackets off the SuperDuty seats.

Fugly nekkid dash:

Bending up the A pillars, the Speedway bender works pretty good.

Fitted A pillars:

We used the A pillars that S&W sent for upper halo bracing. The S&W tubes were meant to drop down in front of the dash, so we bent some to go through the dash.

We also measured up the rear cage bars that go from the B pillars to the rear of the truck, and found they were too short on the down leg part of the tube.
I called S&W and they are bending some new ones up tomorrow, and sending them out asap, hopefully we'll get them by Monday.

we (Eric) got the front cage mostly in. A and B pillars, and top halo are in. need to do some floor plate mounting and tie ins, and the crossbars on the dash and behind the seats.

Eric working the underside of the floor plate. Notice the cab support cutaway for the plate mount and tie in. Also the slider will be mounted in this area.

Really glad to see Rick show up today....he got friendly with the 4-1/2" grinder/cutter real quick, and helped alot. Here he is cutting the cab support on the drivers side to mount one of Kert's underbody tie-in plates.

IM SO READY!! lol

Shower and a cup of coffee and I'll be on the road.

Lots of progress already and the meet and greet isn't until tomorrow!

See you guys in the morning, have a safe trip Kert.

dayum.. you guys are gonna kill it...

hehe you'll be getting all the work done that it took me a year to do.. well, your not doing a whole floor so maybe I don't feel so bad... :haha:

wish I could be there, it'd be a blast ... Tho I'd be stealing the keys to the Vette for some tire roastin! :woot: :haha:

Quick Question

Wow you guys are kickin some major arse!
I realize you're using a S&W kit but what diameter DOM and thickness are you using to supplement. Been shopping a bender and never heard of the speedway... looks affordable... what's your take on it?

Looking forward to it Heath!

See you guys tomorrow. Still waiting on a response from daryl.

Although the floor could use some attention, right now we're concentrating on the cage/sliders. It may get more attention when the body comes back off.
Tire roasting tomorrow!

The S&W kit I wouldn't get again IF you have some knowledge on bending and a decent bender....when I bought this kit last year I didn't have either (still don't have much ) But there are so many things I think you could personalize a cage if build from scratch, and this kit isn't a one size fits all thing either.
We are using 1.75/.120 DOM in the kit and most of the stuff we're adding is 1.75 to the cage, and some 1.25 DOM for the seat mount cage, and center console mounting section. We also have some 1.50 DOM for accessorie stuff, but those will only be straight applications, as I don't have a bender die for 1.5

Looks like fun, wish I lived closer.

Its fun, rewarding, and good seeing this come together.:thumb:

We got a good start on the sliders so far, and got the front cage knocked out pretty good, started on the tie ins for the engine cage, and more bracing for the sliders.
Eric schooled me on welding the thinner body sheetmetal to the thicker parent metal of the cage plate. I can say I'm satisfied with my attempt, and only one burn through, that I patched up after more schooling.

finished the slider install, went and chased down more 1.75 DOM to rework the rear bars to Eric's design, and not compromised like the S&W cage is. Again, I wouldn't use a S&W if you have a bender and some knowledge of cage construction.

Started the engine cage tie ins to the A pillar today also....sucked because we forgot to cut the holes before the A pillar was welded in, but we got a hole in there for the tie in.
