Okay so this is pretty much my mistake. Dangit :doah:

So the easy solution as I see it is to temporarily weld on a bar just above where it is tied into the body.

Cut the crossbar at the C pillar out.

Get a ratchet strap. Ratchet the top bars where it is too wide in. Making sure your ratchet strap is out of the way to fit the new bar and out of the way to weld it in.

Ratchet together.

You will be amazed at how much this will move it in.

Cut new C pillar crossbar and weld in.

I pretty much forgot Dave was ever going to run a top so I never test fitted it.

Eric, I can't tell you how many times I've looked at that bar even on build Saturday, and never thought about the hardtop going over it:dunno:. It's not a big deal as I thought it was, and using your way of making the top of the bars come in, is the way I'll do it. It should work out real good.
I will then run a few more bars on top to give head protection, and strengthen up the rear part of the cage.

That's what I thought originally too if it didn't fit, but there were so many serious recommendations I just made lame comments instead. But that is exactly what I would do.

And from looking at your pictures just now it looks like that would work too.

Yep, I think I will run a bar down each side at a higher plane just inside the hardtop.
Then a bar down the center front to back at the higher plane also.
And another bar from midway point on the center bar angled out towards the front B pillar

something like this is what I'm thinking:

it has come a long way!:waytogo:

Very nice build, not sure how I have missed this one.

welcome aboard....I have been watching yours....very nicely done:waytogo:

I just went out to look at my top from a 1987 Jimmy. It has one piece windows so it doesn't have the aluminum rails. You might be able to get the clearance you need by eliminating the sliding windows. You can have my top if you want it. Pictures are in my build thread.

I think I will proceed with the plan described above, it should be a quick (comparitively) fix to make this work now. Remove one bar, put in a temp, draw the side bars into place, then weld a shorter bar in the top.
I really appreciate the offer, and if you still got it, and I'm headed to Chicago again in the future, maybe we can work something out, I may be interested in one for my trail trailer build in the future.
If only I knew about it when I took Eric to Ohare.:dunno:

Dave are you still gonna want that top of mine?
Adam, right now I would, and we can hook up sometime in the near future I think. I would look at it to maybe just clip the top roof portion off of it, and use it as a source of shade. The top would then be attached directly to the upper most bars of the cage, and the front cab section of the truck.
What shape is it in?

couldn't sleep, and this finally got ya there huh?:pimp:

So what do you think about it all?
I really like seeing the body, and top on it right now, even if it is temporary.

.

Well you saw it, Its not bad, just the windows are cracked, looks fine on the inside, got a small leak right in the middle when it rains, but thats just the seal. So are you saying that you will basically cut the sides off?? I kinda got confused their a bit lol.

Yeah, pretty much Adam....just a topper for sun protection on the passengers' noggins'

That'll look pretty sweet if you cut it right:waytogo:.

Glad to watch yours, keep up the great progress.
Took a few days to go thru it.:eek1:

Hope to get the cage plan finalized this weekend, then get it put together.
Also enjoy your Nascar weekend, but just remember 1 cylinder from a TF Nitro engine = 1 whole Nascar engine..
just sayin' :pimp:
