I'm sure the front leaf can go at least an inch more on the shock, maybe two.
I have about 3" of unused length here:

I didn't want to lift any higher in the back, because the rear tire that was on the ground was starting to slide across the concrete...

I still have quite a ways to go with the tire downward travel though....

I'd be willing to bet you could use all that travel up

Time for some bump stops :thumb:

At this point I could still break the tacks and rotate the 360 mounts outward to provide more shock uptravel. The spring was pretty close to flat when I took that pic (showing about 3" of uptravel left), I didn't think the spring should go inverted for the sake of articulation travel so I settled on that mounting. I plan on putting some timbrens on it also.

Also just remembered that I think the steering pitman arm will hit the spring before the shock bottoms out, so that's another good reason for setting the bumps a little short of the shock bottoming out.

I've read some forums of guys using the timbrens and liking the performance of them way better than the typical bumps. And I'm looking at scoring some pretty cheap I hope.

The rear clamps I cut the top off leaving the sides of the clamps intact to maintain alignment of the leaves when in normal operation, could this be done on the front as well, without causing on road ill handling?

I got the other side of the radiator support strut tube done today. Layed out a wiring plan for additional items such as

interior lights,

power shut off switch,

rear overhead mounted work light,

slave solenoid, (thanks Ryoken)

starter panel,

and some windstar fan wiring relays.

Tomorrow the body comes back off the frame, for a trip to the body shop for a quickie straighten and primer.

Don't forget zim, you can force more travel from the leaf springs.

Try lifting the front drivers tire and the rear passenger tire at the same time.

I`ve done it to lots of my trucks...I was happy with the way it worked for me. Drove a Landcruiser like that for 7 years and it was fine.

Your progress is awesome!!:waytogo:

Springs should not go inverted set up your bumps to prevent that. If you get the timbrens remember to put a ring around them to help prevent them from squishing out the side. usually just a little one helps alot. not even half an inch tall. Depending on which ones you get the timbren website will tell you what they are fully squished, so use that as a guide when putting them on

I disagree I think you should leave the clamps on the front as is. On another set of leaves on a completely different truck I gained about an inch of travel with that mod on the front leaves. But the axle wrap in the front got worse. Axle control is nearly as important as articulation. I think the clamps add to axle control enough to not justify the small amount of articulation.

Just get used to lifting a tire every now and again, remember if you lift tires everyone will take pictures of you :D:D

When I ditched the spring clamps I only got anothe 1/4" of droop, wasn't worth it, but I bet every spring pack is different on that. I put mine back in, since TC leaves just have sleeved bolts through them that you can pop out.

Got the body off today....

set up the dolly for transport, and hap hazardly made some jacking arrangements in the garage....

Ironmaiden432.jpg

This was the most secure part of the lift:

Set on the dolly, and no one got hurt...(well I did run over my toe while we were pushing it around).

Man did you guys that came to the build and greet smell the mouse piss?
I finally found where it was coming from:

Ironmaiden435.jpg

With the body off my buddy thought the chassis looked like a big wide gripped motorcycle....yeah kinda:

So he had to try it out:

Good point Kert. I think I'll set the compressed height of the timbrens about an inch short of the pitman arm making contact with the leaf spring.

thanks Max, always appreciate your compliments:pimp:

I forgot about the retainer ring on the bump pad Eric, you mentioned it to me before, but I probably didn't remember because I wasn't sure what I was going to do yet. Thanks for the reminder. And if I set the bump as mentioned above it should just about make the spring flat, and not invert it.

Oh and I lift a wheel on the Jeepster quite often :haha:, and nobody has taken a pic yet...:dunno:

Good then, most agree to leave (:haha:) em clamped. I'll keep em as is.

little bit of poo brown in a few places wouldnt hurt. But it looks great man:thumb: And whats this front bumper thing I see???? Did I miss something?

I didn't lilke the poo brown on it Shady, so It'll stay as is!:pimp:

man that things gonna flex like a mutha...id leave the spring clamps in place.it helps keep the springs in line when flexing and doesnt let them over flex as it keeps the main pack together.i didnt like the way it road off road as well. seemed kinda sloppy over wooptydoos.cant wait to see paint on that sucka:waytogo:

Lookin good dave! Get them mouse nests outa that puppy!! I bet a can of ether and a lighter would do the trick:thumb:

well now I'm undecided....was going with a Red Oxide primer look w/ clearcoat over it.
But now I'm having other thoughts running around in my head????

Ha ha that's funny! It's a boss hoss!

Progress is looking good Zim and I look forward to seeing the body on for the final time (this go round).

And it's Iron Maiden, doesn't it need to be flat black? Or that's too boring?
