rattle can it in some color combo you like. then when you do get to do the body right you'll know if you like it, and its your first time with this truck in moab. You might not want to do a bunch of body work first:rolleyes:

You should hand letter "Body and paint by Asstard collision repair" on the sides before you leave. :doah:

Rene

LOVE it....thats even better than the IronMaiden!

If it gets anything it'll be a coat of Urethane Primer. I know the quarters are junk, just hacked to sh!t, so maybe this is a good thing to have happen. I can concentrate on body over the winter this way.:waytogo:

Went an got the body today....they did at least hack it up even more than it was....lucky me.
I started covering the bare metal with Green zinc to prevent more rust from forming, and ended up covering pretty much the whole truck....so for now its going like this:

This gives a good indication how deep the mud is:

Yes a ton of bondo, I didn't realize how deep until I started the wheel opening extension.

That bondo was on there and they were fixing it ?

why not just replace the whole side

It was this way when I got it Keith, actually it was reasonably straight too. I can only think cost is the prohibiting factor of replacement, hence I only wanted them to smooth and put it in primer knowing I was coming to Moab, I sure didn't want to put new box sides, rear floor, and such into it to come out there and possibly fock it all up. I was willling to sacrifice a couple hundred in labor and paint to get it looking half way decent, but to put a grand or more into new box sides/flooring/and paint didn't even make sense to me if it had the potential of getting banged up. Now I'm not saying its bash time for these panels, but I won't be afraid of a few dents now on the rear anyway.
Right now I got about 21$ in Green Zinc, and no paid labor into those quarter panels.

Shoot we can knock most of that bondo out in moab!

I guess we'll see what comes at us, and my noob driving style is capable of.

took out the axles, and some misc. stuff for painting tonight.

Final assy. begins tomorrow hopefully.

Lookin promising Zim! I bet your are getting excited to drive it for the first time! Although I am a little confused with the final assembly comment, I have never heard of that.

Also, that last pic, if that's a junk block I'll take it. Might as well leave it together so you don't have a big mess of parts too. :D

Yes, that is a new phrase:thinking: I didnt know final assembly was a real thing.

Looking good man. Now that i see the body and frame together I rememberd to ask,, How easy was it to get the body off with the frame ties the way they are? I tried not to weld them under stress so that they wouldnt move when pulled apart. And I'll ask the opposite when ya get it back together:thumb:

final assembly is a relative term. Final time before moab....maybe in the future it will come off again??

Rick the links came apart great....we'll see how they go back together!

I can't believe there's gonna be a rig wheeling Moab in my primer, too funny.... :haha: keep bangin at it bud!

Hey Zim , not sure if its worth the hassle but I can get you a straight rust free tub for cheap. maybe free

Dave how do you get the tub off?? I didnt see a beam or anything in your garage:dunno:

Wow,awesome Gus...wouldn't happen to be in the Utah/Idaho area would it? Interested as I just bought a 76 dually that Eric found for me, and that would be a good haul for home!

I got a beam in the attached garage I made up Adam, basically a couple 10'-2x8's making a header like a doorway, and use 4x6's as support posts on each end. I have a couple chain tiedown tabs welded to my rocksliders to lift each side with comealongs, then another anchor point in the back, its tedious but it works.

It would be from New Mexico, and I'd need some lead time to get it but I could meet you in Iowa . As long as your not in a huge hurry I could make it happen.
