I believe d31 is the biggest automotive oem battery size.

It measures..

Height: 9.5"...add another inch for the battery posts.
Width: 7"
Length:13"

Here it is in a few different mounting spots on the fenderwell....I want to keep it off the floor, to allow the floor to be removed if needed, and to give more floor space.

It is close to the cage in these shots, maybe need to move it a bit to allow for the mounting tray size as well.

I would also like to keep its dimensions inside of the cage for protection from external damage (like the quarter panel caving in)

Just looks kind of cool I guess thats the only reason.

Looks like it should be reasonable easy to make a tray off the cage.

Mounting tilted down like that you could run both the wires down the battery I think making it look really clean

Bring some detailed measurements of that area along with you Dave.

Tube to fender. Width of inner fender it can sit on. How much hang over there is, angles of fender and tube... Yada yada.
 
what about laying it down.

It could lay down as well, the only stipulation Optima says is to have that small vent on the top back side of the battery to be facing up when mounted.

That is a little tighter on the slope of the fenderwell, I like it there too, as it makes it a little easier to get at, and keeps it away from the passengers back seat. A tray mounted to the cage would be pretty slick I think.

Kert I'll get some more pics of it in that area, and get a template box made up that could be supported off the cage somehow.

Got the front body support crossmember welded in, forgot how much fun it was to weld to galvanized:whistle:

took the rear member out (only tacked in before) to holesaw some access holes for the wiring to go through, galvanized the inside best I could, and set in place for the rear body mounting fab to get done.

Got Norm coming out tomorrow to help out...good to have Pop in the shop...

I think I have finally found a supplier of 1/2" id. submersible rated (SAE J30R10) fuel line....awaiting their response to my phone call. If successful I'll put the link up here and on the fuel hose thread (lots of info on hoses there, check it out)...

I think I'll keep the battery tray mostly in a horizontal position to be able to use a conventional type battery if need be.

For hose, we do have a style we use in all of our fuel cells, though I'm not particularly sure of the SAE rating. It's Parker Push-Lok 801 series and we've been using it in fuel for well over a decade, in fact we still see fuel cells from the early 90's that have Parker 801 that's still flexible and leak free. The only thing with this is it's not specifically rated for E85; if that's what your running I'd suggest something with a PTFE (Teflon) base as it's pretty resistant to all fuels, including alcohol.

You can probably find something close by at your local autoparts or performance store that would fit the bill. With hoses, it's not specifically about the SAE rating as it is the material that it's made of. Most manufacturers use similar styles and there's a few I would stay away from as they tend to get hard and leak over time when submerged in fuel. Jiffy, Aeroquip, and Russel/Edelbrock are ones we replace more often than others; Parker and Goodridge are probably some of the better ones as we don't replace them very often. What you want is something made of a nitrile-based (or synthetic base) rubber. Just try and avoid things with a neoprene outer coating (or inner) as they tend to dry out and crack. Hydraulic hose will work in many cases as it's designed for pertolium oils (like gasoline) along with marine hose. If it's rated for deisel or hydraulic fluid it will likely hold up when submerged in fuel.

Pop and I worked on the rear crossmember today, got the body mounts made and welded on to the crossmember and welded the crossmember into the box corners.

a little more progress on the floor structure, need to get some more 1x2 to finish framing the floor supports, and fuel tank supports in. I used 1.25x1.25 angle for those wheeltub pieces, they fit the angle of the wheeltub perfectly.

Wow. Nice work man.

So have you just decided this body is it until it just is too bent to use? I remember you originally wanted a straight body.
