79 blazer build

I am using 64"chevy springs with the overload removed. With the hard top on, I can invert the springs about 6". When I take the top off and remove the tailgate I am sure it will be less.

They are the long travel rancho 9000's. I have them mounted at an angle and inboarded a little.

Like the cage, I'm stealing your pics for further reference!:D

Did you weld the cage to the floor or is it bolted in?

It is bolted in the back, but I welded it to my sliders. I used 2" x 8" squair tubing for them. I don't plan on ever taking the cage out so I don't mind that they are welded. I still have to put some gussets in and some more triangulation, but I want to still be able to get in and out easily.

Here are some of the pictures of my motor. It has an rv cam, vortec heads and an aluminum intake. We figured the compression at about 9.1:1. Enough to make good power without having to use 92 octane.

Well we had a set back today. I did a leak down test today and found very bad rings. So back apart it came. I was just trying to put heads on it and go. Now the machine shop told me that it is a target motor and was made in Mexico. They put very little nickel in the block and it is not any good. The crank is not good ether. It had several bearings that where down to the brass.

I am having them put together another block for me and it should be ready in about a week. Nothing is easy..... or cheep. Can you believe this started out as just resealing a running motor?

Well I have a new motor and I am ready to start putting it back together. The last thing I Had to do was clean and paint the Blazer. I just primered it and used Home Depot exterior flat paint color matched to a can of OD green. What do you think?

Ah yes the snowball effect.

I spent $21 on the one gal. of premium Home Depot paint. It is 100% acrylic latex paint. I think it will hold up ok. I plan on rubbing rocks and trees so I will be touching it up all the time. I am on a tight budget, and running out of money due to the new engine.

I have had to replace the entire thing. The old block and crank where made in mexico with low nickle content and that made it too soft. It was not rebuildable. I even have to replace the flywheel. I have 2 common parts with my old motor. They are the timing cover and the thermostat housing, thats it.

I just checked the paint. After 24 hours it is hard and does not rub off. I used it because I was told it was what they use on metal garage doors. I figured it would stick to my truck. I am sold on it.:cool1::

Well I have some progress to report. I have the motor in and running. Still a lot to do, but I am finally making progress. What do you guys think of the star on the door?
