79 Blazer Smash 2.0

79 Blazer with a few modifications
Few more. Gotta figure out the pitman arm and its path through the frame that the bolt will take.

My solution for the 5” of lit and 43” tires is to cut out the rear fender wells. I’m going use these Jeep style trailer fenders. They come 37” wide and 19” tall I put them in my press and held down the middle and pulled the legs to open them up to 48” which made them shorter and I will weld 2 of them together.

What about the core support / body mount? Will you section the top for it puzzle piece in?

Not going to use it. I’m going to make a tube structure back to the firewall and tie into the roll cage. The hood and fenders will be attached together and be a tilt front end off the front.

Here is the passenger perch ready to clamp down a leaf spring with an 8 degree shim. This is what will allow me to mount the spring in the goofy angle so it’s 4” higher at the new frame horn end.

getting my Reid knuckles situated on the d60 today and it looks like I’m going cut up some brand new steering arms to make raised ones. One of my favorite things to do is cut up new parts to bend them to my will.

1”-1.25” is what I’m going to need to make this work. I’m going to cut the end off those arm and stack and weld them. Going to shorten them .125” and gusset and double shear as well. .375” spacer under the arms will give me 1.375” for good measure

I machined that clamp for clearance at the heim joint instead of using another spacer washer. It’s the little things for me sometimes. Less to lose on the trail if falls apart or if it’s taken apart.

Finally got the left hand 1 inch hind joint so I was able to finish off the tie rod. The swing on it back-and-forth is about 5 3/4 inches so looks like a 6 inch inch and three-quarter is gonna work great just have to mount it so that the last 6 inches is taken up in the mounting of the ram, so it’s not perfectly parallel with the tierod. The front springs I’m using our 56 inch 1 ton springs and I wanted to make a military wrap leaf for them. So what I had was some 57 inch rear Ford springs that had a lot of arch and I took the arch out using a hydraulic press that I jigged up. They are the same height now so time to break out the force and open up that eye and get it wrapped around. and from the annals of history, the Dr Smash third brake light bumper that I made for my wife’s truck 20 years ago has resurfaced and I’m gonna trim it down and make it fit on the back of smash .2.0.
