79 Blazer Smash 2.0

79 Blazer with a few modifications
Thinking about the dash and its layout. I’m going to use a stock non tilt column because if I lose power steering I don’t want the chance of the column breaking at the mechanism. I will leave the stock key tumbler in there with a key dangling. Battery switches will do the on/off duties for ignition and accessory. A tach, volts, oil, water, fuel, and under drive oil temp gauges. I have a 3.5 screen from the Holley Terminator x and a double DIN touch screen stereo. The stereo has a dual camera split screen so I can do a front and rear camera set up. It also can display files from my phone like topographic maps stuff like that. Switches and warning lights. A waterproof gun safe mounted somewhere there also. Might as well put a lot of cool lighting as well. And CuP HoLdErS

Cup holders, definitely need cup holders
These are the ones I’ve built before in my suburban and some other customers. The little bungee keeps smaller cans in place, big enough to fit 2 liters, coffee cups with handles and are a spill through design with a catch tray/ garbage below. Bottle caps, sugar packets , coffee creamers and spills fall threw into the tray. They also fit pistols real well. Made from 3/16 cold rolled wire.

Machining complete. Also drilled and tapped the holes for access to the shift forks 1/4 npt so no more stupid freeze plugs. Sanded all the casting flash off and prep for paint. Transfer case rivals the motor in cost so I’m gonna treat it like the piece of gold it is.

I have to make a piloted roll pin punch that will hold the roll pin while it goes into the rear output shift fork access hole in the case. I will probably make 2 of them at the same time one for my shop toolbox and one for the trail tool kit in the truck. The punches in the picture have a pilot but I need one that’s like a half inch long. That’ll go into the end of the pin and hold it while I put it into the hole.

Talking about trail tool kits I like to make a tool kit that usually has just the tools I need to fix the truck and maybe a few extra things. How big do you make your trail toolbox? Do you bring extra stuff in case you want/gotta fix other people stuff on the trail?

Haven’t been able to make anymore major headway in a month.

Blazer is inside for the winter with hopes of finishing by spring. Starting to wrap up frame mods. Moved the crossmember forward and ditched the stock motor mounting. The gusseting is going to carry down the entire frame with a truss look.
