79 Blazer Smash 2.0

79 Blazer with a few modifications
Looking good, when are you thinking you’ll have it ready to hit the trail? I’m interested in the air compressor, I might have to get one.
I don’t know I think I got a couple months still. If I have it out for a September rubicon run I would be amazed. I did tell the wife I wanted to work evening on it and she is out for the summer so that might speed it up.
The air compressor, one thing I didn’t mention was when I do have it mounted where I want it I will have a cooling fan for the compressor head. This will make last longer and work more effiently.

Have enough room for a panel mount air ,water or electricity. I’m thinking that I might do an air connector in the front and each rear wheel well so maybe not that. I do have an idea for a water tank and that would make a good fill point. Electricity would be a water proof panel mount 12 volt or a 115 volt for a battery tender.

Modified the radiator to LSX style steam tube and surge tank. Still need to weld a couple of hose barbs to the surge tank. I’m using jeep style hood latches recessed in little pans at the fenders to keep the tilt front end closed. And I have an oil accumulator to plumb into the oiling system.

Studying my air intake and I’m going to make a Helmholtz resonator for it. The difference it will make is at off idle and for lower powerband.

What is this? Not familiar with it.
It’s is an acoustic resonator meant to trap the sound pulses created by the opening and closing of intake valves. That statement is a condensed opinion fron a bunch of research. Here is some reading https://planetsoarer.com/resonator/resonator.html
An even worse description of this resonator for the intake is “ the goofy shaped deal on the intake tube on modern cars and trucks”

Seems like everyone wanting performance tosses the goofy plastic box thingamabob when they replace the intake tube and I’m over like “ hold my beer , not only am I keeping mine I’m making an aluminum one! “

My simple swap of output housing this afternoon turned into take output shafts out of 2 transfer cases and swapping them. Then reassembling both transfer cases. But now I have a VSS, didn’t think of it when I built the case originally.

Well drawing air from the passenger compartment is reason enough to quiet the intake.
