79' GMC C15 - Spruce Caboose

79 GMC 1500
Got the other door stripped down and hung the new one. Hangs nice but the gaps a tad big at the bottom of the fender, I'll have to move the bracket back in a bit and then maybe push the top one over to compensate.

I was also wondering if I might take on modifying my glove box by taking a pie cut out of it, to make it shallow to allow the ecu back there. The reason for this is I only have two vin locations. One is on the dash the other is this one, i worry if I take this off it'll just vaporize if I switch to the AC / TBI glove box insert.

For now I may just run the door with an envelope glued on the back for papers, nothing but junk ever collects in there anyway..

I did get the ecu mounted where I wanted it now. And moved things around for now. I was hoping to fasten all the relays and fuses to the piece of steel I had the ecu mounted on previously. One complaint is that the relays and what not don't have much slack away from the harness. The ones that don't have much slack will probably get tied back to the harness. And all the fuses will get mounted up to the plate so I only have to put two tiny holes in the sheet metal up there.

With the ecu mounted this way I'll be able to peak down and monitor the 5 lights without opening and removing my glovebox to clarify.

i hear ya there. Mine was always a bit of a laundry hamper, but the only usefull items were fuses and the 5/16th wrench / 10 mm wrench. Im not sure what i could use to glue it back together.... maybe some fiberglass strips and resin would do the trick, maybe overkill though. When i was a carpenter we used some 2p-10 glue, or something that was very strong and would cure quick.

You missed out on all the rain and flooding Nick?
I didnt miss it but i was one of the lucky ones... I was without power for about 30 hours and luckily the little acreage held up and drained down to the lower sections of land near me. It filled up the recycling bins in about 6 hours... so thats about 10" of rain... The road out of sooke where i live were all washed out n shut down so i hunckered down here and relaxed in the darkness. Worked in the shop for awhile with an old oil lantern i have hanging in up there and a flashlight..PXL_20211116_015512942.jpg

Finally getting my ass back to work will alow for the ONAN genset to become a priority again!

our island higheway washed out up island too around duncan so traffic between is pretty shut down, and after seeing pictures of the Coquihala, and merrit and all that i would imagine BC is going to be suffering for awhile..

this is the campground pretty close to me that has become part of the river system...258158242_5281818355168818_4386112165343096675_n.jpeg

Glad you made it through without to much hassle.

feeling very grateful , andi was lucky enough to have time to fill sandbags at the local firehall for others because my property was doing okay. After 3 years of digging up weeping tile and perimeter drains that fail every winter here.. im happy i decided to buy a house thats slab on grade with no crawl space.. so unless my house floats away on the slab like the ARC, im lucky to not have any groundwater to worry about in terms of the house.

Holy crap! That's gonna take some serious work fixing all the damage from those washouts.
Might need a good crane operator.
no doubt! and yea, the highway up island right now in single lane traffic during certain hours and closed other then that. In terms of fixing it all, its going to take awhile.. i would imagine it will be atleast 3-4 months before those highways are open fully. Having been employed on edmontons ring road highway with 46 bridges..... i know all about how long it takes to drive piles, ground works, carpenters for framework, concrete ect.... I bet some guys will be getting good hours for the next year... Vancouver got it the worst by far... I think almost all the major highways out of the GVA are all wiped out..

Stumbled upon some more goodies. Traded some grilles off the wall, all ones I don't plan on using anyway. One 1980 only chrome one, but all is good because these will be nice in the truck. One thing I do worry about is a car seat in the future. Not sure what the laws are these days about kids in a car seat on a front bench.. oh well that's a future nicks problem.

Factory bucket seats and the brackets. Rockauto sells the leather for about 3-400 bucks for both buckets.

And this old oil heater , I'm going to try and get running on some oil ATF and what not for the shop this winter since funds are too low to invest in heat.

Got the seats home, and also snagged a rear trim piece. Turns out the guy is rebuilding a sweet 1976 3+3, which is so rad.. Sourced out some seat upholstery which isnt too bad, about 300$ for the set. I should be able to sell the bench for that much or more, so it should be a piece of piss really. Ended up trading him 3 grilles i didnt need. Next is to hunt down a console for the centre. Or make one if i get real creative this winter... but i doubt it.

I was happy he had the brackets to go with it. Makes life so much easier, and I will just have to make the little A frame bracket for both sides ,and weld it on with a new mounting plate on the underside of the cab. The drivers seat has a bit of a torn part but its only on the side and isnt torn at all up top where you sit. Im going to look into what i can do to get this tip top before i cover them.

When i was doing research, i found a 1:1 scale of the bracket needed on either side. Its out a coat hanger, but it shows what ya need. I have enough scrap im sure i could put something together.
