79' GMC C15 - Spruce Caboose

79 GMC 1500
Like my momma always said; you go looking for trouble, you're gonna find it.

Dropped and cleaned the pan. Got the aux power and lights moved over to new spot in the fuse block, with key on 12v. Since the terminator wants two signals from the brake light input, i re pined the plug with two 12v leads coming out of it when the switch is open. One goes to the DBW 12v input switch and the other to the torque converter and brake lights.

Trans temp gauge is all wired and sensor is in the pan. Don't have a gasket, thought about reusing this one but I'll just pick one up at the store this week. And reinstall.

Also sat in the heated seats.. they work well ..

I had to cut the plastic piece under the wheel since I didn't get one with the dash and they don't match up. I cut the plastic with a little handsaw I had, and then filed the corners round to fit.

Trans is all buttoned up for now and no pan leaks after a couple days so thats good. Also found a local guy who came recommended by 4-5 people, to have build a new 4l60, or 4l65 for me. I told him i wanted to be able to party, and he said no problem at all. Might be some time before i can afford it, so hopefully this one lasts through the summer.

I also decided to move the main terminator harness behind the motor and through the firewall there. I was having some concern with how it ran past the exhaust on that side. This way its neater in the engine bay, and also i dont have to worry about heat . It tucked behind the heater assembly, and up to the ECM easily. I also took a stab at this plastic sticker togetherer i got online. It just burns these staples into the plastic, they are shaped for flat, inside corner, and outside corner. I still have a a small corner piece to make, and also try and stick the strip that flexes on there. It also has a pronged flat attachment that looks like an oil painting knife, and it melts the seam you create when joining the two pieces.

Pretty neat tool, definitely takes a little getting used to in terms of how hot to to get them, and how to insert them. turned out better than i needed it too , and cheaper than buying an insert from somewhere. I didnt know that the staples break off by hand and i went and snipped them all, so im going to have to take the little cut off wheel to them instead.

Finished up the glove box today and got it installed. That plastic melter is worth its weight for sure. I was able to just melt the groove on the front, and also flat across the back of the section that flexes. I was skeptical but worked good. I probably wont use the glovebox much anyway. I totally nerd out when a substance is "now", able to be worked with and fixed. I melted the airated chunks of plastic from cutting, into some of the gaps here and there and it just melted right in. I guess you can buy different plastic sticks, based on the plastic type and what not, and just burn them in.

Also got the terminator wiring all tied up for now, and out of the way.

Also got around to starting the doors. Layed two coats of primer down on one door today. And started tackling the weatherstripping pile i had. Realized im missing both of the long skinnier one that runs along the vent window post, and mine are shreaded. Drilled the rivets out of the weatherstripping inside the vent windows and poped the glass out of the frames. The new seals seem to be a good so far. I Gave the vent window frames a quick tidy with some red scotchbrite and a spritz.

Nice job! You got a link for the plastic welder thingy? I think I might need one for fixing plastics on the kids atvs.

More of a battle scar look, rather than a battle wound for sure!

Bit of a photo dump regarding progress. Got the first coat of paint on the doors. Not too concerned with the exterior of the door as it'll all get sanded again but I will be keeping the inside of the doors black I think.. we'll see how energetic I am in a year's time when I paint it.

Got the donor hood on. Had to get creative doing this alone... I don't think a single person has helped me turn a bolt on this entire thing.. I should really get some friends :rotfl:

The original green on this hood is the color underneath. Im thinking it's the green I'll go with for the whole truck. It has no metallic and it's a nice color.

I think that's about the same green my 66 was. The build sheet says turquoise, but what's still visible looks an awful lot like yours.

I was looking at swatches and it looks like GM medium green? I like my current trucks color but not a fan of metallics and it adds a level of difficulty to painting it myself.

Looking good Nick! Installing a hood by yourself is always sucky. I just did the same with my 66 Fury. :1zhelp:

Ah man yea its a bit sucky for sure. Lots of room for woopsies..

a couple times i forsaw the hood going through the windshield..

yeah, at least the windshield in the Fury is already wrecked...

I am going to be getting a new one put in this. Mobile guys are 300$ installed.. hard to argue with that and this thing is so pitted from the dirt roads at the farm in Sask. where it lived most its life.
Again, so awesome you, deb and v diddy came to get a 24 hour food store meal with me. And i absolutely love having your grill on the c10, Good memories anytime i see it now, and i even have some nice black steel headlight retainers also..

Your parts are so shiny im gonna have to shine my other mouldings up haha.

I'm really happy to finally see those parts on a truck, even better is that they're on your truck! It did seem like overkill for you to pick them up with a 90 ton crane though... :haha:

Feeling a little better now I'm guessing?
