79' GMC C15 - Spruce Caboose

79 GMC 1500
Understood for sure. I already have the electronic gauge going to the ECU, and i dont think i want to tap a hole big enough in the block , just for another electronic sending unit. Having rarely used taps , this was a good way to break the ice without stabbing the block as well
It's the mechanical water temp gauge I hate the most. Both my 66 and 73 have the factory mechanical oil pressure gauge and I plan to keep them. It does feel safer having the mechanical sender for oil. I always thought the next time I want to put in a mechanical oil pressure gauge I might use AN fittings with braided line.

You can definitely tee into the top one. It might be a weird fitting though and I think it has a screen too.
As far as tapping stuff just go easy and check with your fitting while tapping to make sure you don't go too deep since it's a tapered fit. Sucks when you do that. Thin materials it's easy to do. Also don't go too tight and crack it when installing the fitting either.
Surprised you didn't go with BSP(British standard pipe) with all that metric shit you got going on. Lol.

Yea the top one if i recall did have a screen and seemed very annoying at the time to modify a christmas tree of fittings, all coming out of the valley pan.

I was wondering if it was a tapered pitch or not on the tap. or if you were meant to bottom them out. Thanks for that. luckily i escaped clean this time, will remember for sure next time. I put some blue thread locker on it and didnt ream it in there at all, just snug.

Oh and if anyones wondering the pilot hole i drilled for the tap was 21/64ths...... just to stay on track with not following any standard of measurement.

Well i picked up some copper line and ran it through the firewall where the previous one was and tucked it up and behind the header. Much cleaner install than having it go forward as previously orientated.

while i was out i also picked up a new temperature sender and pigtail. The stock sender has two wires that come out. Not having much luck looking up wiring diagrams for an 07, i figure ill install the electronic temp gauge as usual, and then hope one of the two wires work. If not ill have to find out what each ones for, and run them correctly.
Im going to pull power from the relay box and add a fused 12 v wire down to the gauge pack for the lights, and 12v power for the one sender.

i had one of those in this gauge pack originally, definitely hated that one also.

Early 07 or late 07 not sure if it matters. I can get you a schematic off AllData next time I get on the puter.

umm not too sure. Didnt check the vin of truck when i pulled the motor and i never looked at the vin that is also stamped on the block ( ive read that its there also ?) Thatd be awesome. I have the holley system now so luckily i wont need much from it but if its not too much trouble id take it for sure!

awesome! ones a low reference wire ,for an idiot light id assume or the ecu.

Found the missing link to my bucket seat idea. This thing is pretty clapped out but I feel lucky to have found one up island that wasn't out of my price range. It will need all new hardware, half of the hinge needs to be replaced, and the trim ring will need some love. The rust has pitted this thing pretty bad. Ive never really tried to bring anything like this back but I'm assuming I'll just have to take it down and then try and polish it again. I'm not sure how durable this sorta flimsier trim is..?

Luckily the tabs are all in great shape and there's only one little hairline crack In it, about 2 inches long in the body.

The seat upholstery showed up today. I don't really know what I'm looking at in terms of quality but it all seems good. For the price you can't really complain. I got them off rockauto and they showed up 3 days early even...

School done for now? Nice to see you on the crane!

If you haven’t thought about it now would be a great time to add seat heat… didn’t think it was that big of a deal till We got it it three of our rigs. So nice!

Heated and cooled seats are the bomb. I laughed when I got my first set in 2008. Haven’t owned a daily without them since.

Cooled is tits too! Only my kids 012 Dodge has that. Our 012 Duramax Doesn’t:dunno: And our 014 VW only has heat but the air conditioner works really good!

I hadnt given it even a minute of thought... I definitely will look into it. i can keep busy with the doors for awhile until thats sorted out. I really dont plan on driving this truck in the rain all winter so im wondering how much id even use it? Price as usual will dictate the outcome at the moment haha.

my '14 had heated and air cooled seats... The passenger would usally find out by asking why his balls are so cold..

I bet the wife would appreciate it after a chilly day at Long Beach, for example.

This... is... very true! haha. Doesnt seem to be to expensive to put in. kind of a maw situation i must say..

well.. after driving my 04 duramax work truck again.. The heated seats have really been nice. Im fully convinced now that they will get put in to the seats before i upholster them.

Also snagged a free tidy tank for the oil burner. I plan on storing this behind the shop under the covered area, and plumbing it in so it can run for long periods of time without needing to be refilled every day or two.PXL_20211218_174345307.MP.jpg
