'79 K10 Step Side Rusty Rex

79K10 Stepside
This 8274 belonged to my father. It was on his CJ5. I recently sold the CJ5, but made sure to keep this winch. It's so cool. I modified my bumper to hold it. So pleased with it so far. I ran out of welding gas so it's only tacked in for now.

Need to get a new welding tank. And keep plugging away.20220429_164211.jpg20220429_164218.jpg20220429_164224.jpg20220429_164236.jpg20220429_164244.jpg20220429_164253.jpg20220429_164257.jpg20220429_164305.jpg

Cool bumper and the 8274 is just right.

Something about your truck that makes me what to chop mine down and find a stepside box!

Little more progress. Added a different solenoid cover(older style) and Warn brand winch rope and fairlead to the winch.

Also some yukon diff covers. I have a radiator update to add soon. Not installed yet. I have some pre bent tubing to add to the front bumper and some larger round auxiliary lights, since i recently learned how terrible my headlights are on a dark back road at night .20220610_165648.jpg20220610_165654.jpg20220610_165658.jpg20220610_165704.jpg20220619_144115.jpg20220619_144123.jpg20220619_150019.jpg20220619_150022.jpg20220619_150043.jpg20220619_151624.jpg20220619_155419.jpg20220619_165344.jpg20220619_165351.jpg20220619_165356.jpg

The aluminum radiator was removed due to poor performance. Those steel .223 cases were inside the fender.

A shot of one of the shock braces. I need to lower the front bump stop another inch or so. And trim a little off the rear fenders. Just so the 40's cannot rub. I ruined a set of leaf springs in the past by not setting my bump stops correctly and bending them too far negative alot.

still need to have several serious spray paint sessions also. Nothing fancy, mostly cheap flat tones.

I'm also thinking about some heat shields on the flowmaster mufflers. Welding the flex joints in really helped with the headers coming loose at the collectors.

I started making a tire mount in the bed feom spare tube and stuff. Its sort of turing out ok?

A few shots of my rear bump stops, these bump stops smash down alot when pushed on. Not sure if i like them....and those are 2" receiver's and 45 degree brace as my bump stop mounts.....redneck, but seem to work.20220903_114631.jpg20220911_200914.jpg20220911_200932.jpg20220911_200948.jpg20220911_201010.jpg20220911_201024.jpg20220911_201127.jpg20220911_201134.jpg20220911_200959.jpg

I'm not done with the tire mount, it needs another tube across the bed. It's pretty stout, it's bolted ans strapped. But one more tube will help with the little bit of wobble it has, not bad so far. I wanna leave it fairly easy to grind out of there if I end up hating it. But strong enough to stay put.

The rear bump stops look close but those things smash a bunch. If they are junk I'll switch to a more rigid shorter bump. Or try air bumps or something.

While I like your work, that just doesn't look like much uptravel to me. But you already explained that.
Leaf springs are sort of wear items.. :D

They are close. I was concerned before final welding those mounts in. But, there is such a variety of single post bump stops available pretty much down to a little nub style that I decided to give it a rip.

These bumps stops a like mushy soft. They smash about 3".

I think I've seen a members thread on here where he destroyed this style of bump in short order....

I'll take any advice or criticism people have to toss in here. If many are reading this far. Ha

Update time, I will be swapping to an aluminum 6.0l. It's a combo of gen 4 and 3 parts. It will be close to stock build spec. This block was low miles.

I like my sbc, it leaks no matter what. The pro flo definitely has been excellent at making it modern and drivable. I wanted to do an "LS swap" last engine rebuild and didn't. The chance to sell the old sbc for good money came across at work.

So I'm building the engine and will swap it out soon. I hope it works as well as I'd like.

I'll be running a reprogrammed GM ecu initially and retaining my sm465/np205. Using ad many GM parts as possible in this build, or USA made if possible. Which is difficult anymore.

Will be risking an Ebay standalone harness. Going to stay engine driven fan, and run a GM stock truck air box and intake. Drive by cable

That's pretty clean.
I see basically all Gen IV stuff on that block, so what's going to be Gen 3?

The crankshaft reluctor wheel and camshaft wheel will trigger the gen 3 signals, and the computer is a gen 3. Oh and gen 3 knock sensors on the lower sides.

Option for bumpstops: Timbren "Aeon springs", there are a few rigs on the site using them. No complaints both times I've used them and haven't read of someone destroying one yet.

Doubt you would even have to modify your bracket.

Link to spec sheet...

This is info that is out there already. But, it's actually hard to find many pics or people running the mechanical linkage clutch and an sm465 with an "LS" engine. I looked around alot for a hydraulic bellhousing, and anything i found was super over priced. My clutch has been swapped to heim joints and an aluminum rod in the cab with heims. Mine works smooth and hasn't give me any trouble. I'm gonna leave it this way until I can buy the high end hydraulic pedal from malwood or bowler.

I want hydraulic, but I want external slave. There are a few really nice kits to do it right and be external slave. But they all run 800-1000$. Not that big of a deal.

But here is a picture dump of 2010-2015 camaro manifolds. And mechanical linkage. I swapped the driver collector and pointed my driver side o2 sensor forward.

I put a bolt into an unsused motor mount boss on the block to relocate the return spring mount.

Not an exciting update. May help someone wondering whats fits.

Updated the last post. These are not F-body camaro manifolds. These are 2010-2015 camaro V8 manifolds.

Even clearing an external slave will be tight, but possible. Man the drop in pedal from malwood looks nice. IMG_6935-2-scaled.jpeg
