'79 K20 Minor Mods. 203 is out.

Got the 208 shifter hole cut in the hump. Connected the linkage and went through the gears, it all works.
Went to the yard and found a nice shifter bezel and the plug that goes into the Tcase. Need to wire in the back up lights to the trans and the 4wd plug into the tcase.

Need to get the rest of the floor done too because the bad weather is on its way.

I've put maybe 10 miles on it since the 4 speed swap, and honestly I don't like the gear spread on the 465. Missing half the floor, trans hump and all the insulation makes this thing loud as hell. I think I have an exhaust leak as well but it's hard to tell with all the road noise.

Hoping once it quiets down I can learn to love a dump truck trans.

a 4500 is a 465 with an OD tacked on the end.

That is not technically true. They are very similar, but an NV4500 is not an SM465 with an overdrive bolted on.

SM 465 - Low - 6.55:1, First - 3.58:1, Second - 1.70:1, Third Gear - 1.00:1
Early GM NV4500 -1st - 6.34:1, Second - 3.44:1, Third - 1.71:1, Forth - 1.00:1, Fifth -0.73:1
Late GM NV4500 -1st - 5.61:1, Second - 3.44:1, Third - 1.71:1, Forth - 1.00:1, Fifth -0.73:1

Now the 3500 has the different gear spacing.

That is true.

You are correct Martin. I just use the acronym since the gear spacing is so close. My mistake if i caused confusion.

When you drilled your holes for the clutch master, do you only drill the 2 holes for the bolts and then use an existing hole for the master? I have to measure the holes out tonight and it looks like its gunna be a pain in the ass.

Nope. Drilled all three out. Made a template for the hole pattern and traced it onto the firewall.

Possible. Let me see

Edit: Here is the best I have. It really needs moved up almost 1/4". Not sure how I f'd that up but I sure did. For reference, that big round hole is for the plug for the th400 that the kick down wire passes through. The screw is for the fuse box and the bolt is one of the rods for the pedal cluster.

Got more things done. Took a saturday off to go shoot at the range. Drove the big truck there to further test the 465 swap. Still missing the passenger side floor and trans hump. It's still loud in the cab.

It was also a good night for drinking, but nobody wanted to party but me. I drank alone in the driveway while I fit up the passenger side floor. The plan was to patch the outer rocker and save as much of the inner as I could. Had some trouble fitting the floor to the inner so out came the saw.

Fitting the inner

Tacked in place

I didn't get any pics of the initial fitting of the outer rock, because that's kind of boring. But I cut it that night after carefully eyeballing it once. The next morning I woke to find this.

Oops.

Fits pretty decent now.

I think I said something before about a door I picked up for $20. Here it is.

Also, here is my floor hump without the 465 shifter hole stamped in it.

Here it is again covered in peel & seal. Gonna do the whole cab floor and doors with it and see if it makes a difference.

I forgot to mention that my wife likes to browse craigslist for truck parts. Which is just fine and lets me dedicate my time to other things. She asked me last night when I was getting new tires.

Then she TOLD me I should get new tires.
Then she told me SHE would buy some tires as an early christmas present.

So..that's just fine by me.
