80 Jimmy - The Monkey Paw (Time to finish interior)

Idea with this was to build it robust, and simple, and utilitarian. KISS principal.
Between holidays, being sick and pulled my old ATV out of retirement. I have been REALLY slacking the last few weeks, have some things I need to do around the house. I have neglected it and the truck... Haven't even started the truck in like 2 months. :doah: Did order some front to rear brake lines from classic ind, hopefully they're actually right.. Don't want to have to make lines since it seems I'm incapable of making a leak free connection :frown

There’s some fun to that

It's kinda tough living in AZ. It's hot as hell all summer - too hot to do anything out side most of the time. So winter I spend every weekend making up for what didn't get done in the summer.

Re-did all of the flooring in the fall as it was cooling off. Still have a couple of items left to finish on that project.

Bought Camaro in September and haven't even finished a tuneup on it.

Still need to figure out wtf I'm going to do w/ this brake line. Been kinda sitting on it as I'm at odds about it.

The main line that goes to the back out of the prob/combo valve. Leaks at the fitting. I've tried re-flaring it a couple of times, it's too short to do it again. I've got a brand new pre-bent line but didn't realize it ran through the engine mount - so if I replace that I've got to lift the engine and pull the frame side mount out. Or try to splice in a short section and hope those flares work out and find the right fittings to make the junction.

I suck at flaring brake line, so I'll shush. But I'm thinking a short piece may be the answer

That's what I'm leaning towards, gotta be easier than lifing the engine to replace that whole line.

Honestly, at this point I'd pay someone to do it but don't know a shop around here that I'd trust to do it right.

Last night this happened.... Yay - look at those numbers, clean as a new car!

Then this happened... Boo... I never rechecked the clamp on the lower hose and the uncle I got it from had the clamp on the wrong side of the nipple.... So all this time the lower hose was held on w/ friction from the rubber hose... Dumped the rad all over the ground. Had to have wife bring me tools/water as I was unprepared... And, I know better... sss-honk... :doah:

Got it home and parked it - haven't checked it over to make sure no overheating damage to the engine. But shut it down pretty quick.. so hopefully it's good..

@JoshHefnerX what's your long term review on the carpet?

I'm waffling over the cutpile or essex, as well as, the backing? I've already got two layers of sound deadening and heat throughout the truck. Wondering if it's overkill to add to the carpet?

Haven't driven it much, still haven't fixed the goddamn brake leak but it's nice carpet. Spent the money - ACC, was cheaper at rockauto than from mfg, but got lots of samples from mfg beforehand. cutpile, did the premolded/backed w/ sound deadner. it's as nice as any oem i've seen.

Couple of years on now, Not much changed. Take it in to emissions, fart around with it. Still havent fixed the brakes, or finished the interior or regeared the rear..

Went to start it at one point and didn't even click. Took me a few mins to figure out the safety switch was cutting it out. Moving the shifter got it started. Got in there today and looked at it, trans seems to go into park w/ good detent with the linkage unhooked but seems like the linkage/column is binding. Looking up and manipulating the linkage by hand I can see that as I move up towards the park position the steering shaft moves around - like they're rubbing on ea other.

Anyone have any good diagrams or pics of how the column goes together?

I think I've got it adjusted enough that it's ok.. But it didn't take much to pop it outta park before I adjusted it.

On another note - My wifes uncle that gave this truck to me, Mr. Monkey Paw passed away a couple of weeks ago. We had a bit of a falling out a couple of years back. Doesn't set right with me, but wasn't much I could really do about it. :-(
