(80 K25) "Nigel" 3/4Ton of Fun

Its time to order the parts to build and swap in my D60. Please let me know if I am forgetting anything to convert from dually to single wheel and swap in.

So far I'm thinking
  • ORD cross over steering
  • ORD weld in frame plate
  • ORD extended brake lines
  • U bolts
  • 2" or 3" tuff country EZ ride springs
  • 2 king pin rebuild kits
  • 2 sets of inner and outer wheel bearings, and seals
  • 2 SRW hubs, probably Yukon YHC63629 and drill out my dually rotors to fit hubs. Do you think I should spend the extra $60 and get the OEM hub/rotor assembly from ORD?
  • I already have a spartan locker to drop in.
  • Junk yard low mile 2WD steering box. Maybe splurge on a red head.

Since my D60 has 4.56 gears Ill regear my 14b to 4.56. Hopefully that will motivate me to find a NV4500.
  • USA standard 4.56 thick gears for my 4.10 carrier GM14T-456T
  • USA standard master rebuild kit GM14T-a
  • Yukon crush sleeve eliminator CSGM14T

I just picked up a cheap set of Wrangler MT/Rs in 37x12.5R17. So I'm going to start looking for some 17" wheels. H2s or maybe just by once and cry once on some bead locks. I'm getting tired of these surplus tires. I can get them balanced out but it only stays for a few miles.

No reason not to spend the $60 for new stuff vs. drilling out the old. Also no reason to spend it if you can drill it and they work.

I'd say OEM hubs and rotors for no real benefit except the new rotor.

I didn't see inner axle seals or a nice diff cover. And a lube locker would be nice.

Good looking out. I didn't think about inner axle seals but since Ill have the carrier out I might as well. Isn't there a newer part number that is supposed to be better?

As for a cover. Probably a ruff stuff, I have always liked the look of the WFO cover but its more money. I should just order it and get over it.

12 thousand dollars? Nah I think there are better ones. Little less expensive.

Assuming you got all the parts for free. Would you guys swap from vacuum to hydro boost? Im picking up a 2wd steering box from a guy parting a truck tomorrow. He said I could have all the hydro boost stuff too if I wanted. I know I need the booster, hose from booster to box, The brake pedal has a return spring and slightly longer eye support bracket to account for the booster rod being in the higher hole.

My brake pedal has the hydro boost hole in it already, my 5.3 PS pump has a hydro boost return port on it since it came from a hydro boost truck.

Me, no, IMO hydro boost sucks when you have hydro assist steering, and brakes and steering loose a line and you are really screwed.

Well everything is ordered. I spent the night cuddling my wallet and crying but it is done.

I ended up going with a 3" front spring hoping that it will be somewhat level with the rear of the truck

Are there any objections to redrilling the center pin hole of the spring perches on my D60? That way I can push it 1" forward without having to run the zero rate.

I’ve drilled them, but I also appreciate you stimulating the economy

I dont claim to be the smartest man but I don't see how this would be any different other than paying to not have to drill two holes.

ORD just got a bit over $2K from me. I've stimulated enough for a bit.

I spent an hour pulling the axle apart today. I dont think ive ever had something come apart so eazy. No issues and all the parts look great. Just need some wire wheel love and black paint.

I still need to pull the carrier and put the locker in as well as pull the shafts apart and clearance for snap rings
