80 k5 - frame off 6.0 LS swap

no work on the blazer this weekend, my dd (and wheeler) while i do this swap, my s10 zr2, felt like takin a giant clutch ****... so replacing the clutch required to get me to work on monday morning takes priority over painting blazer frame.

deployment is comin up really damn fast. i am working way too slow.

finally, some progress!

Got my new Bowtie Overdrive lvl 2 4l60e. Look at that giant stack of potential there!

Got the frame cleaned up, wire wheeled, and painted. I used an Eastwood 3-stage frame paint kit, the first -the only one on the blazer right now- is a rust converter, followed by a rust encapsulator, and then a satin black top coat.

It looks so much better, even with just the first coat of converter.
Once I get the body lift on, I'm going to do the rest of the frame.

Also, prior to painting, I got all the holes I needed to drill to bolt up the ORD engine cross member and the ORD steering brace. 3 holes through the bottom of the frame, and one hole through the steering cross member.

Got my transfer case cross member sand blasted, and I dropped it off to get LineX'd.

Thanks for your part in protecting us.

call it the teck bug... every single thing's gotta be cleaned and painted before it gets bolted up

don't rush putting anything together man
while you work on it, ask for some hauling help in the classifieds. I'm sure there's a member out your way or going through town that would help haul everything out.

If I was closer, I'd help in a heart beat. I've got a 14x7 utility trailer too :(

i am home safe from afghanistan. got home the other day. so good to be home!
going to be gettin back to work real soon!

oh yea, and i am not going to fort benning now. i am staying at fort campbell with the 101st airborne.

Thanks for your service.
Now its time to see some progress.

so i've got a question........ my blazer being from el paso leaked a lot of oil during its life time. this oil ended up sticking a huge amount of sand to the bottom of the truck. it worked out pretty good because its a 1980 with NO rust on the bottom side. however, i'd like to clean it up.... the sand and oil mix has formed a pretty tough cement.
what is a good degreaser/solvent i could use that won't harm the paint?

thanks for the help yall.
the old wiring harness is completely out.
the frame is cleaned, sanded, and painted all the way to the rear axle.
steering column is out. it really wasn't that hard to remove at all..... i'm going to swap it for a non-tilt steering column i already have from my old 77 k20, i'd rather'd not have to tear down a tilt column later.
lq4 is prep'd for installation.
did a test fit with my engine mounts.... they need bored out and painted

this might become a frame off job.......... stand by

I want to do an 80 Blazer in burnt orange, but in a 2wd street cruiser setup, with a 6.0 in it as well.

I'll be keeping an eye on this.
