81 k5 build.... literally in the driveway

yea, you need to keep the rpms up because the only way the lobes get oil is from it slinging off the crank. Ive heard the best way to do it, is get it up fast and vary the rpms between 2-3k, but you dont wanna keep it at one specific rpm.

Also, get some thicker lube, the stuff they give you is thick, but most of it will drip off before you get around to starting it. Something like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-104?seid=srese1&gclid=CI7K4uOl37cCFY1DMgodFFEApA

looking good brother! Youre a little bit ahead of me on the engine

Ehh, not by much dude. Not to mention, youre not just buildig a better engine, youre building a better blazer.

What kind of heads are those???

My heads are cheapy aluminum Pro Comps heads. However, they have been ported/polished, and have new stainless valves, and comp cams springs etc.

So with that work done to them, they will flow quite well, ive seen some serious horsepower engines built with these heads, so im hoping for the best!

There we go.... wage, its not gonna make big numbers like yours, but itll HOPEFULLY touch about 350.

Thats exciting! And the bike would be so fun!

Im pretty stoked!

The bike..... coolest thing ever. Its just friggin cool to ride. It was my dads when he was 17. He was sponsored by a local dealership. The bike was lent to my moms brother, who ran it with no oil in the gas. Then it sat for about 20 years before being sold to a friend of my uncles. Then it was sold again to whoever. Then it was in a fire in a shop.

Fast foward to 2011. My mom, dad and uncle were at a big antique sale. Uncle runs into his old friend my dad sold the bike to for $100 (same as the day it siezed up). They get to talking about what happened to it. The guy tells my dad he sold it to some guy in driftwood tx that make fishing rods...... MY DAD HAPPENS TO KNOW THE GUY. Calls him up that week, and lo and freakin behold..... he still has it. He then tells my dad about how it was in a fire, and probably in wprse shape than when he saw it last. (It definitely was). Then... he told my dad if he wanted it, it was his.....

5 months later (after pulling all-nighters working on it) i make an unannounced trip to austin on my dads birthday with the bike. He has no clue where i was at on it, just that i WAS workibg on it. He pulls up in the driveway as im filling it with fresh gas.

Bike fires up on the first no-**** kick i give it..... id never seen my dad more excited

The bike had sat for 32 years. Months after he sold it, he wished he hadnt, and had ALWAYS talked about finding one like it to restore one day

In progress-

We got the break in done, and i discovered a pretty real oil leak from the timing cover. Ill havethat fixed asap

Update- on sunday morning we deduced the leak is from the front, and real of the oil pan. Thats my bust for not getting it sealed well. My friend told me that he wouldve called BS if it DIDNT leak, with it being my first SBC build.

Ive located a fel-pro one-piece oil pan gasket OS-34509T. Anyone have experience with this $45 gasket? Ive heard great things.....
