81 k5 build.... literally in the driveway

THIS JUST IN-

Ill be picking up an SM465, and an NP205. The 465 needs new syncros for 2nd, so ill be working on that whilst doing some electrical clean-up, and sheet metal

Also, and realistically probably between now and then (picking up stuff for the swap) ill be thinking of a design, and fabbing a front bumper for this thing.

Ideas are welcome! Ive got a pipe bender, 220v welder, and sevral cutting tools (chop saw, etc)

First things first- seal up the oil pan. Im already all over that though

It's not the synchros. It needs a pipe between the gears on the counter cluster.

I'd skip it, and look for an SM465/NP208 (or a rare SM465/NP241 combo).

Martin

Oil pan is sealed. I've got an exhaust leak that's driving me bat-shiz crazy. It's were the headers bolt to the heads. So that'll be getting fixed soon too.

Sorry folks (all three of you following).

Zero progress lately. The good news is, I'm being transferred to Austin TX. That's where I grew up, and all my family and friends live. Bad news..... I sold my truck, and found out 2 days later about the vacancy there, and I had to apply for it. Basically a snowball's chance in h3ll of getting it, but I was selected! Now I've got 2 weeks to move, in the midst of a baby shower on the 20th, and trying not to kill my mother in law (kidding). Were obviously getting some childish defiance from her on the whole moving thing, apparently she thinks she has more of a right to my unborn daughter than I, the father, does.

Anyways, I'm in the midst of packing my house, getting it sold, keeping the misses happy, keeping the mother in law out of it, finding a new house, and working out the logistics of moving all of our **** there, with an 81 k5 for a daily driver, and no pickup

Keep working hard, it will pay off in the end. Rent/borrow a trailer and pull it with the k5.

My best friend has a duramax, and a 24' gooseneck I can probably use. I've got access to an empty 10'000sq/ft metal building on my family's ranch I can store furniture in till we find a house, till then, we're crashing at said friends house

sounds like you got a pretty good setup then. Just think once its all worked out and you got a nice house with a garage :waytogo:

Yessir! And I'm right down the road from everything/everyone I know/love. Austin is a very cool place to live.

So.... Im all moved and settled. Upon moving i realized a few things-
These hills are steep
Ive got a 28 mile drive to work
My blazer has like 2.??:1 rear end, with 35" mud terrains
This commute sucks
It sucks worse in an 81 k5
I have no garage
Its effing HOT.

SO I SOLD THE K5...... I know, i know.... Sad day. Ill have another one some day, but until then, i needed something that got better mileage, has AC, DOESNT take 3/4+ throttle to lug up a hill. And finally, i wanna pay cash

1982 Chevy C10. Bought from original owner, with 132k original miles. Has a well built 350, ajd th350. i dont have the cam specs in front of me, but its fun. Ported 186 heads, wieand intake, edelbrock carb, and headers. this truck is fun. Period and, it has AC. And old school Cragars. Lol.
