'83 k30 Project

Really digging this truck, and your crew cab you had. I'd like to bring my blazer down there sometime when y'all go to the beach for a fishing/camping weekend and tag along!

The dash pad is shot and about the only thing it houses that's useful is the guages.

Appreciated man

I have a set of Try-Y headers on a K30 with a 454, and the collectors are real close to the spring shackles. Sometimes when I hit a big enough bump the header collectors would smack the the spring shackle. That is why I have decided to try a set of mid-length headers on my other square body truck to see if those clear better than full-length headers do.

Small update:
Was down in Corpus Christi this weekend and swung by their local pull a part and snagged a set of small block driver and passenger side brackets complete with alternator, idler and tensioner and power steering pump. Not totally sure if he alternator and pump are good but I'll check them over or just replace them. Wanted he pulleys and didn't have all the tools to pull those separately so just bought the whole setup.

Also ordered up the kwik performance conversion kit, thanks to those of you who recommended that over a high dollar kit

Sorry everyone. Progress has been slow. With all the rain now in Texas after Harvey and dad currently recovering from a stroke progress may stay slow until the weather cools off.

Starting to work out more parts.

For running a larger radiator (6.2l diesel dimensions) I did manage to find that HD brackets for the 80-87 model trucks. Now I am at the point that I either need to decide which direction to take the cooling fans
Option 1:
Mechanical
- factory 9 blade 20" fan from a later 90's 7.4l
-heavy duty fan clutch for the reverse rotation water pump
-Find a fan shroud setup that matches the Diesel brackets... (might be tough)

Option 2:
Electric fans
-Windstar fans
-Spendy aftermarket

Thoughts?

Slowly pegging down some parts I need.
-Bought a new water bump and a 160* thermostat for the motor.
-Salvaged up some diesel radiator brackets and going to go with 98 model big block radiator.
-Working out a plan With Jimbo to obtain the diesel radiator shroud I need
-Mocking the 5.7 brackets up with the quick performance brackets
-located the big block crank shaft pulley and a 9 blade fan to help with the cooling. (picking up next week)
-Need to figure out what power steering pump to go with and going to use an old PSC reservoir I had left over so later on I can run hydro assist.
-Need to pick up a heavy duty fan clutch also.
-For the initial swap going to run the current carb and the distributor that are on the 350 until I can upgrade later

Also need to cut out a template so I can cut out a plate to cover the hole in the firewall from ditching the heater/ac stuff.

Mainly just a bunch of little odds and ends right now.
No real work being done other than part hoarding.

Well... here's good news. I knew the np205 in my truck was rear slip yoke...could have lived with that.
turns out its also a syncro 205. So anyone have a thought as to why a truck with manual front hubs has a syncro 205?

Something had to have been swapped once upon a time.
So, in the process of pegging down another 205.

So anyone have a thought as to why a truck with manual front hubs has a syncro 205?

Are they factory locking hubs (Warn style but with black unmarked knobs)? The auto locking hubs were problematic, I could see the hubs being swapped before a tcase swap that coincidentally was a syncro'd 205 (since they're so rare).

That's what I'm thinking also.
Ill have to look closer at the locking hubs. They have a faded black dial but isn't the spicer style that's for sure.
Must be the warns

Managed to make a little progress as parts have slowly started rolling in and I figure out what all little odds and ends I need.

*edit... trying to figure out how to post pictures again since Photobucket pulled the BS they pulled...
any suggestions ?

Ok that worked.
So excuse my "engine stand" and the mess. Basically got the kwik performance brackets on. I went with the later model 5.7L brackets only because of the alternator being on the passenger side so when I eventually put two batteries on that side it'll be closer.

9 blade fan and crack shaft pulley compliments of a junk yard score.
New 140 amp alternator, new water pump, new sever duty clutch and new power steering pump from let 90's 7.4l model trucks. As well as the radiator, which also showed up today. Still gotta track down the right belt tomorrow

Pic below is of a left over psc resi I had from a previous tuck that never got used. Going to make a little bracket to mount it right in this area
