'83 K5 6.2L Diesel 64" rear springs. 3/4 ton axles. rear discs. Boring but works!

Took the blazer home from work today and took the fam out shooting and did some easy wheeling at the Strike Ravine area to test it out. Its working good so far. Definitely need to get rear bump stops fabbed up and I have an engine oil leak to take care of. It also smokes black pretty good while driving on the highway. Gonna try to turn down the injection pump maybe, it also has really old fuel/transformer oil/hyd oil/atf in the tank.

Few small updates. I have a bad oil leak coming out the air inlet on the rear mount vacuum pump. I ordered a new one from a place on eBay. My oil pressure gauge reads 80 all the time. Gonna check the sender while I'm doing the vacuum pump. I got it inspected and registered today, woohoo!!! Mounted my license plates and rear license plate light tonight. Also pulled the steering wheel and tightened the turn signal switch arm screw up and pulled the trim around windshield to tighten loose screws for visors. I changed the oil and filter and greased the truck. Got a wheel for my spare and had it mounted too and made a list of all the other stuff I need to get done. I have tuff country TCI-CX6 front springs. They came from a 6" lift for a 3/4 ton 1969 suburban. There are 3 leaves. I need to lower the front about 2-3 inches. Should I (a) remove the shortest leaf (b) buy used 4" lift springs (c) hold out for now and move front hangers to install my factory rear 52" springs?

I might try 2 springs.

Measure from the axle up, then go flex it. See how it settles.

Yeah they are still brand new I'm not sure if they will settle more once they break in. It would be easy to pop the u bolts loose and take out a leaf on both sides.

I pulled the shortest leaf out of both front springs today. Now they only have the two main leaves. I went and gave it a little off road flex test and remeasured and it sits an inch lower now. It rides nice and flexes good. I'll run it for now and later on do some 52s I think. I moved my shocks from the normal upper mount to the one for the dual shock and it fits my shock length lots better since I'm only running single shocks currently. I need to extend my bump stop brackets down about 3" to keep everything happy. Sorry no pics left the phone at home on accident.

Here ya go. Also swapped out headlight switch and cleaned up grounds on radiator core by the batteries. High beams still glow very dimly when low beams are on. Need to do some more t/s and find where the voltage is bleeding over from. Maybe floor dimmer?

Sorry no wheeling/flex pics.

Keep an on on those front springs, they might keep sinking. I did that with a set, then put #3 back in a month later, everything worked real well

It could be the dimmer, might not be opening the contact all the way when switched. The hi beams work right when activated?

Yes high beams work. The other weird thing is when headlights are on the turn signals don't act 100% correct. I think the left arrow lights up on the dash and they flash the headlight a little like a ground issue. I figured the springs might settle more. I'm a little concerned with just running two leaves but can add the third or go to the 52s later after blazer bash.

Thanks it's coming along. As soon as i get the black smoke and oil leak fixed I'll starting driving it every day.

Trace your grounds at all lights on the affected side. I had a similar issue with my K20 and found the fix today. Ended up being the light socket itself, the ground wire going into the socket wasn't making contact till I put some manual pressure on the wire at the socket then I had blinkers and running lights on that particular side. Will be replacing that socket tomorrow.
