It had a 204/214 cam, better valve springs a impco 425 and a model E regulator vaporizer. Burn it up because it didn't have enough part throttle timing for the lpg. Next time I will have 2 vaporizers and a boost retard.

I wanted super low end torque so the turbo was small and the cam could have been bigger. The turbo was from a project my buddy who owns a speed shop's project where they wanted to make 555 RWHP out of a customers truck. This turbo was a bit too conservative. Still it came on like a light switch and would blow my 36" swampers off at will.

I bet it would light up 36's! I wan' low end torque too, this isn't a go fast truck.

Need to pull my cam out tonight and take a look at it. Really weird these engines don't have cam retainers, that threw me off last night during disassembly.

Why? Every small block or big block till 1987 didn't use a retaining plate. There is an angle ground into the cam to rotate the lifters that pushes the cam to the rear of the block. The only reason that block has the retainer drilled is for the rare marine gear drive that only used 2 gears. A gen 6 cam will fit that block with the gen 6 timing chain and retainer but you have to use retro fit lifters. The vortec 454 cam is pretty small though. I have another buddy where we did a super budget build on a 89 tbi 454. We pulled the pan, inspected the bearings, replaced all the seals and installed a vortec 454 cam I had. With headers a swap meet edelbrock tbi intake and a custom tune it will do OK.

Most of my engine building has been European and Japanese OHV engines. Maybe I've watched too much horsepower TV because I expected a cam retainer and there seems to be provision for it. When I asked the interwebs last night I read about the angle on the cam forcing it in place.

Yeah I thought the same thing. Hell I'm just left wing un-teachable tofu farting fairy prius toting libtard.

I'll just weld the cam in place.

If it makes you feel any better my current k30 is 7.8 to one or worse with a vortec 454 bottomend, 781 heads, a $25 marine take out cam and a performer rpm with peanut ports. To top it off it has a 460 cfm carb. Maybe now that I will be making money again I can bump the compression and do a modification I have all the parts for but will not mention because it will start a endless stream of single posts by a certain someone that will just be single posts mentioning the mod. Still for what it is the engine runs pretty good.

I haven't got the dreads yet. Plus I work for a living which goes against the grain in a major way.

Oh and I use deodorant so i don't smell like a billygoat at a petting zoo.

So you are a 1%er? Uppity bastard! Get to work, there are thousands at home depending on you and your tax money!

Lol I don't care what you have. I won't pick on you. I know nothing about big blocks anyway so it's a good learning opportunity.

Maybe you won't smell like burnt Vaseline if you get it out of your system.

:sign9:Here ill raise the california peace flag. If you be nice ill be nice. Truce?

SHHHHHH (looks both directions) he may hear us.

Yes they are OK, still small valve. When I was a service manager i bought the 454 long block as a core and sold the heads off to a guy that needed them for a irrigation motor. So the short block cost me $50. It has eaten the dist gear and the owner was afraid that the cam was bad. I had the 781s from another 454 c30 I bought for $500. The truck was parted out and the short block went into the same buddy with the tbi 454s 71 camaro since he had hurt his short block and was broke. It took about 20 200hp shots before dying because he forgot to check the oil after a huge high rpm burn out spun a rod. It is now rebuilt with a set of ported 049s my camaro had before moving to brodix heads. It has a nice hyd roller and will easily brake loose the tires at 40 mph if you get wild with the go fast pedal.
