Are you all healthy and working again!?

I’m still recovering and need to limit the physical activity, otherwise I get dizzy with a headache. Heat exposure is also a concern so I’ve been limiting my time outside in the 90-100 degree weather.

I’ve been working from home for the most part with the occasional quick visit at the office to sign docs and deal with issues. All things considered I’m doing well, it’s just a slow process.

So bouncing around in the the tuck might have to wait for a bit! Glad you’re doing good! :waytogo:

the system sweats in general however I haven't had any leaks besides the old used reservoir I was running.

I was rethinking the low pressure lines on my setup a couple months ago after it failed. However after speaking with the PSC tech, reviewing PSC documentation and looking at other builds I decided it was overkill for my application. I also noticed the pump inlet is tapered down to 10AN anyway....
I got the can with a -12AN fitting. I probably didn't really need it either but you know how I feel about overkill.

We took off to the mountains last weekend for a camping trip with friends and family. Last minute I decided to bring the truck because my wife decided to ride with a friend so I can take my truck. We fished, hiked to the waterfall for swimming and went target shooting. Lot's of people at the lake so I left the truck in 2wd for the whole trip however it was nice to GTFO of the house and spend some time in the mountains.

I was driving my buddies K5 on the trip and came to the realization how fk'd up my power steering still is. Bottom line my system is not reacting fast enough, something is limiting the quicker movements and his system reacts with less effort from the wheel. His system is all PSC without a cooler. Mine has a cooler and I have the redneck steering box (rebuilt by them in 2017). I hate to drop the coin on the new steering box but I don't know what else it could be.

I had one of their complete kits put on that 74 K5 I bought in CO at the 4x4 shop the previous owner worked at and had similar issues. It was their complete kit, box and all. It was very sluggish and I was very disappointed. I know a ton of people swear by PSC but I've also seen a ton of people with issues. I personally won't be buying their stuff again.

I have to agree, there’s been plenty of cases of poor performing PSC systems however I know some are user error. I’m just trying to figure out if I’m missing something here....

The only thing I think could have been improved on the install of that system I had was the resi was mounted as high as it could go on the core support which I've seen a bunch of people do but that location created a longer more gradually sloped hose run to the pump and I've read you want it as directly above the pump with as short a hose possible. Other than that, there wasn't anything that should have caused the problem that wasn't PSC's product shortcoming itself. I never did get around to relocating that resi before I sold it but I told the new owner that's all I thought could be done without initiating a warranty claim with PSC. Does Redneck sell a complete kit with a pump and resi? I know they obviously sell the boxes and rams.

Wonder if going -8AN on the returns would make any difference. My buddy's K30 that I take care of while he's overseas has a Redneck Ram steering box and it seems to work fine.

I did the PSC box because I'm more concerned about flow with the hydroboost brakes being in my system. I don't remember noticing much of a difference tho, but if you've got something hokey going on, maybe it would help more.

When I mounted the new reservoir a month or so back I looked at the reservoir mounting specifications and found my setup was within those specs. There was a maximum length hose allowed and I was a couple inches shorter. I've replaced the reservoir, pump and the ram AFTER the initial install so I keep going back to the steering box. West Texas Offroad sells kits however I don't believe they sell pumps.

I asked the PSC rep about the -6 lines when the first pump failed and he said those were fine. Either way the flow is going to choke down leaving the steering box......plus if I was starving the pump I would think that would be something I would hear. I also spoke with the rep about pulley sizes and he indicated mine was fine for a lower RPM BBC crawler application. I should probably call PSC again and pick there brain about it.

Just realized I didn't add this to my previous post. FWIW, I did -8AN on mine including the cooler from Howe. I also have -12 between the reservoir and pump - they make a pump can with -12 welded on. It's probably overkill.

Have you checked the ram isn't bent?

Any chance it could be too much pre-load on the king pins? I tried the spring eliminators but I thought they made the steering too stiff. I don't know what you're running in that regard and I'm too lazy to look back thru the thread.
