'84 K5 Build (Midlife Crisis)

Meh, factory LT1 will turn 5800 easy. With a 750 throttle body and some warm ups, they go 6500
Maybe because mine is a 383? Idk, mine sure falls flat. Maybe I’ll look into a bigger throttle body.

I was just going to add that, and I think that’s valid.

I do know the stock block LT1 with just exhaust, tune, and TB/cold air will make 460 lb/ft at the flywheel. That’s impressive for any NA small block

The super-short runners on an LT1 intake sure help with that. I had a buddy in college build up an '86 'Vette that was from at least 4 different cars. The small-block started out with a stock L98 TPI setup but ended up getting changed out for a TPS Mini-Ram which looked awfully similar to an LT1 intake but fit standard gen 1 heads and block. He was putting down some serious HP at the wheels when he strapped it down to a dyno in Detroit when we were out there. His girlfriend's dad had a '92 ZR1 that was making less HP/TQ than the '86 hodge-podge small block car was.

I'd have gone this route if I could have found TPI parts cheap

I think its the best factory injection setup, and can go without a VSS in the transmission
@TJ1978
So if you have a good l31 long block and a TPI setup and you are building an overlander, would you use the TPI or the vortec stock setup?
Does the TPI even fit on the vortec heads?

The MPFI isn't bad, and if you already had it with vortec heads, I'd run it

As for the intake pattern, I'm not 100% positive

I could never run a vortec setup. Every time I think about that bolt pattern I get a twitch in my eye.

I'm a huge fan of the L29/L31 platform. Cheap and easy power for old school SBC/BBC, at this point though it's getting to be just about as cheap to swap in a junkyard LS and call it a day.

I always thought that and I have the complete setup so my plan is to put it in my 89 suburban.
I was just wondering if there was any advantage to the TPI system.
On the other hand I have a tbi350 and it has a collapsed lifter so I need to work on it and it might be an opportunity to do the TPI on that one?

I did a bunch of research before buying a crate engine. I couldn’t find a 6.0 with the comp, wiring, and accessories for less than $2500. And it was still used
Finding a wrecked truck may be a better option

Saw those in Harbor Freight, but I was surprised at the price. I'd rather have a Warn for the same price. Although that Warn has steel cable, but I already have the synthetic line. I also don't know much about Badlands so maybe it's not that much different from a Warn.

By looking at them and knowing what harbor freight has been doing I would say it's the same Chinese manufacturer.
