'84 K5 Build (Midlife Crisis)

If your stock front shaft looks like mine below, you can clearance the CV with a little cutter/grinder work.

No more binding.
Zoomad, do you know how much you gained by this? I have a handmedown front aftermarket but it still is going to bind, was looking to do this to it if its worth it.

Thanks.

I've had that shaft in my truck since I did the trimming. 5 years and counting and a truckload of off road miles in Colorado, Utah, CA and a little in AZ and NV. Still going strong. The front shaft has never bound up during any suspension cycling.

Thats great, and on factory front shaft, i need to go check out your build i just saw this on here the other day, and have seen other guys have issues, this seems like awesome fix.

The issue is the stock shaft at stock height is fine. But if the truck is lifted the full sharp corners and extra material will cause the shaft to bind and hit on itself as front axle droops. It's pretty easy to flex the cv around by hand if it's off the truck. You'll see what limited movement it has before it starts touching in multiple spots. Knock off the corners and come back with a flap disc and smooth it all out.

Faster Eddie, any chance you know weight of your rear bumper, with or without tire?

just trying to get close estimate of how much weight to stick in the bed of mine to tack up bumps and Get things figured out.

I can say for sure, the tire and wheel assembly is 134lbs. The bumper is only a guess but I’d say around 60 lbs. worth of tubing, spring stuff and the tire mount.

Thank you.
You bet. I’ll tell ya, no one can say you didn’t do your research. Good on you for getting as much info as you can. It can definitely help from doing stuff over again.
