85 K5 Build (What to do this summer...)

That little tank of Co2 is adorable!!! :haha:

Seriously, I did the same thing with my first welder....small tank, seemed like a good compact solution. You run out of gas SO quickly it's not even funny. It doesn't look as "cool" but now I run the larger 80cuft (~3ft tall) ones and keep a couple in reserve. I only seem to run out of shielding gas on the weekends when AirGas is closed!!! :doah:

I never thought about it running out fast mine only turns onwhen the trigger is pressed. How many liters per hour should I set it for ?

I like your pics, very clean rig. I just bought a 78' can't wait to start on it, you have provided some good ideas.

Does anyone know why there is a woosh sounds when pressing on the brake?

Just guessing, but it sounds like either air in the line or you have a bad MC that's bleeding off pressure back into the reservoir

2nd on the bigger tank..you will burn thru that little one really quick. esp if your doing a cage.. you need to mess around with the setting on the regulator as you weld to get it correct..ball park.. like 20 to start and then go up or down from there depending on how the weld looks/sounds..no popping like with flux core and you want it to sound like ripping fabric (IE buzz box) when your welding. when the gas is flowing correctly you'll have an easy time keeping the puddle going..too little gas and it will pop, get the wire stuck and you'll loose the puddle..too much gas your just wasting gas..but too high is better than too low..if your in the wind welding then you'll prob have to turn it up..all welders are different so it takes some tuning to get the gas set up right..some welders work awesome at 12...mine likes 22 for some reason....and ALWAYS shut the tank off as soon as you are done welding..get into that habit so you will never come out to the shop the next day and realize you left the tank on all night and now you have no gas..which just about everyone has done at least once.

As far as your poll. I had all 3 at different times on different trucks...you cant go wrong with either DIY or ORD and I would buy a flip bracket before I built another one..... so I vote bacon.

I prefer the DIY style just for the fact that you can make your own shackles very easy.

They are both very nice though.

TNA makes a cool adjustable one, but I cant find it on his website.

Do you have any pictures of you home brew shackle flip

I think he was referring to making your own shackle "sides", which the DIY4X kit allows for. This converts your rear shackles to the same style as your front springs, when the ORD kit retains the factory style shackle.

Oh gotcha I thought he was saying the hanger

AKA you can make a 4" shackle, or a 12" shackle, or any length you want, in a matter of minutes out of a piece of flat stock.

I have the TNA 2.5 lift version, absolutely LOVE them. You can get zero lift, 2.5 lift, and the normal 4 inch lift shackle flip from TNA. The nut plates make install easier, having the shackle angle adjustability is really nice. You'll need to call to order them, but well worth it.

Do you know what the cost is?

I think they run $160 to $180ish. Best to make contact with TNA, he absolutely rocks and I can't be happier with any of the stuff I've gotten from him.

He sent those to my Duneparty. They are really nice.

I love my engine crossmember from him.

Yeah I'm not planning on caging the front in mostly because I do not want to tear the new dash up. The cage is mostly to protect the back seat when the hard top is off

Thanks I will definitely use your advice. I don't think I will extend it into the cab just because it will take too much room. Maybe one day but I'm going to college in the fall.

I caged just the rear cargo area on my '89 for originally the same reasons. I just wanted the passengers (my kids) to be protected while we were out with the top off. It's all 1.75 .120 wall HREW and tied to the frame in 4 places. I built it narrow as I knew I would boat tail the rear at some point and didn't want to re-do the cage. I still intend to cage the front "someday"

Things I would change:

I would make my halo a bit wider and a bit longer. It ended up fairly compact and my kids have gotten bigger.

That is really cool cage I never thought about going that narrow but I might now
