Wow, that undercarriage is super clean.:eek1:

Yes it is. The truck is from Southern California. It supposedly only has 80k miles. Not sure on the millage but it is rust free. Wish I had the time to tear it all down to the bare frame.

His plans are West Point and on to the Marines. He is having a blast with this project.
Just a helpful hint for your son... If he wants to join the Marines as an officer he has to go to the Naval Academy at Annapolis. West Point is Army. He should request the application packet now as well. The application process is fairly involved, including an official nomination from a US Senator, Representative, etc. http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/steps.htm Good luck to him.

That truck looks great. I thought my Blazer was pretty clean because i only had some surface rust....

Well, we got the front axle set in and the truck on all 4s for a few measurements. The front is about 3/4" high. I figure the front springs will settle some plus once a bumper and winch are put out front that difference should go away.

The right front Axle Ujoint is stiff so I have to replace it along with new tie-rod ends, will add a 5 degree shim to the back for pinion angle and then shocks the axles part should be complete.

This is just in time for the transmission. It shipped from Bow-Tie on Monday so it should be here early next week. I really have to get on the move over the weekend to get the axles set so I can devote the time to the trans and transfercase.

It's going to suck to have to wait on a driveshaft but I can't have it built till the trans is in place.

Thanks for the info. We had been told he could go through West Point. I'll have to ask again. We are not "helping" him do this. We are not holding him back either. He has a lack of focus and drive so we figure if he really wants it he needs to do it.

He has done very well in his school's ROTC program but the child just has no motivation. It concerns me if he does go into any Armed Forces. He doesn't think the things are truly handled within the unit when there are matters and he thinks it will be a cake walk.

Now I remeber being a 15yo boy. I can do anything BUT I knew I could get my ass kicked. He doesn't think anyone can whip him or get the better of him.

He has alot to learn and he is going to have to do it on his own. We'll be there to help pick him up but TEENAGERS, it's illegal to kill them!

Yes Road...wish I could send him to boot camp now, let him get a taste of leather by way of his ass.

The shop is 32x40 all trussed and open floor. There is a dividing wall for an office but it is not load bearing. We purchased the house with the shop about 5 years ago. There are some things I would do different if I was building but it is a great shop, I am blessed to have it.

I suppose I can't say for 100% sure that there isn't some alternate path through West Point, but I can be 99% sure. The marines are a branch of the US Navy and go either through NROTC and Officer Candidate School or the US Naval Academy at Annapolis.

The military might give him some focus and discipline. It did for me...

I love that shop too. I can't wait until I can buy a shop, I mean a house with a garage.

my shop is that big....but when you stuff 6 trucks/cars in various stages of buildups you run out of room.:doah:

haha

and by the way...this is an AWSOME buildup...im too am about the age of your oldest son... and am completely JEALOUS:D :haha: :haha:

and the idea of this project to bring yall together is great. i can honeslty say that i cherish the moments htat are few adn far between hwere we both get to actually work on something together.:( but hey its all part of growing up and when the times comes to work together...it makes it all the more better.:)

why only 33s? with 1tons 4.10s and a 454 he will be able to spin the SH*T out of those tires...personally i would step it up to 35s.

but hey thats just me:D

The wife and son are wanting me to go with 37s and more lift, what a problem huh? I plan on using the burb for work, towing, hauling, traveling. With 4.10s, 33s and the 4l80e I should be turning decent RPMs running down the interstate. I know fuel millage wont be great but it will be better than 35s.

youll be pushin around 3250 on the interstate...i have 3.73s th400 adn 33 and at 65 im doing 2800...but the more that i think aboot it your 4.10s plus the overdrive of the 4l80 should "cancel" each other out...

With 4.10s and 33" tires that is the same as the stock 31s and 3.73s. With the 4th gear for the 4l80e I should be in the low 2ks at 70...I think.

Just ran the numbers. a 33" tall tire, 4.10 gears and a .75 overdrive will be 2173 rpm at 70 mph.

That's not too bad.

:haha: Who keeps it at 70?

Your right....you know you are.....80 will equal 2272....which is decent.

Anyone know the best RPM to run a 454 for fuel savings?

I guess that is an oxymoron isn't it? Run a 454 for fuel savings.
