'85 Subruban K20 Build Thread

Well, I got my trans in from BowTie. They shipped a 2wd case instead of a 4wd case so I will need to replace the tailshaft oil plug. At least I've got the right out put shaft.

Look at that tail shaft. This will enable me to run an 8 bolt k pattern 205 short input. I will just have to cut that bad boy to length, that should be fun.

Also got my Compushift and Warn Premium hubs. I still have a few things to button up on the axles then I can move on to the trans. I hope it goes as easily as everything else has.

I guess you get what you pay for. I've still got my 4l80/205 combo & I'm having impure thoughts.

awesome thread! cant wait to hear how the compushift and 4l80e work out for you..... i should have my 4l80e w/ TCI controller going hopefully within a month or so...... I love how bowtie's transmission cases look so nice and semi polished....

Well, I got a little more done. I installed the 5 degree shims to bring down the pinion slightly. Lined up real nice. Just hope it stays that way when the new trans and tc are in.

The shocks you see there are the Rancho 9000XL. Kind of on the big side but should last forever. I didn't even know the "XL" existed till I ordered the shocks, not even sure of the difference.

As you can see the Mag-hytec is mounted. Very nice piece of equipment. The worst part was relocating the vent hose to the axle tube. I was really dreading it but turned out not to be bad at all. The wife even held the shop-vac to help with metal shavings (yes I used grease).

The brake lines took forever. Kind of anal. Didn't want it to look like a home made job. Think they turned out ok. Hopefully they wont leak.

Just my friendly $0.02; On the Burb, you'll want the gas tank skid, and I'd recommend extending the exhausts further out into the wind.

The exhaust was out there and I had to cut it off when I did the shackle flip. It will get fixed once the burb is running again.

As for the skid it will come in a while. The truck is going to be more of a tow vehicle than a wheeler. But I hope to have everything skided on the underside.

Cool:D

Well, I just had to do it. I just had to get the burb out prior to pulling the trans. I got everything bolt and torqued down and took the burb for a quick ride to see how she rode.

It was a nice smooth ride till about 45 and BAM!!! my first experience with death wobble. Don't know if it is a major problem or not. The alignment still needs to be done and I am not running a steering stabalizer so I really dont know if there is cause for concern yet.

The brakes were still weak. I guess I still have air in the lines. I was considering going ahead and putting together a hydro boost set up. Have to see how money is next week.

The brakes did work better than prior though even with the soft pedal.

This evening or tomorrow the 700r4 will come out for the 4l80e replacement. I am excited.

In the pic it does but it really isn't. It may be slightly low but I am expecting the front springs to come down some when the bumper and winch get put on.

Mine is there too. depends on the fuel level (40 gal.).:D

Now I had not figured in the weight of the fuel. I am sitting on less than 1/8 tank of gas cuz I knew I would be dropping the tank.

Rear may need to go up some.
