'86 Jimmy 4in Lift, 40’s, tons, 8.1 Swap- 700r4 said PNNNNN

This is not a dedicated trail rig, but does trailer to the destination usually. I am currently in the planning phase of doing a 52/56" spring swap, and getting back to being more road worthy.
Been driving it as much as possible, as well as locking it in 4lo and crawling around the yard to work this system as much as I can. The youngest wanted to drive it to football practice. Then drove it to work. Don’t get as many looks as the shiny ‘78, but sure get some rubber necking kids!

Still no trail runs since the steering change, but hours of messing around in the back acreage locked and in 4Lo. Also took it to I-70 Raceway for C10 Shindig as the Willoway Blazer wouldn’t run. A lot more attention than I thought this truck would get. Had about 15 conversations with guys that are interested in doing their own 8.1 swap. I’m not bragging but there aren’t guys around here doing 8.1 swaps yet.

Trying to figure out paint direction still. The more I think about it, the more I’m leaning towards bedliner again. I’ve accepted the fact that I wheel by braille and that thick bedliner will help some.

So I had AI do some photo editing and made the truck all blue, and I definitely want to go that route. So my plan is, color matched tintable bedliner in the factory light metallic blue.

Are you going to foot the money and get it sprayed with a good quality bedliner? I think it makes a huge difference vs the garbage DIY stuff that ends up looking like crap. There's a teal green Ranger near me that is sprayed the right way and looks good. Definitely no going back from it ever.

My only concern with bedliner is that if it starts to rust under the liner you wont know it until its too late.

For bedliner options, consider Seymour's 2K Protective. That's what is on the suburban's inner fenders, and it will go on the roof, in the cargo area, on step areas on the sliders and bumpers, and on the drive-over fenders on the trailer. It's as high quality as LineX and Rhinoliner, but without the extremely expensive equipment needed to apply. You and I can do it in a driveway. Just use a quality primer and good prep. It's competitive to Raptor liner, but with superior UV performance and impact durability.

Yes, they sponsor me, and I wouldn't recommend their stuff (or put it on my truck) if I didn't trust the people that work there.

Truck looks really good at that height.

I’d say leave it. Especially if you’re gonna beat the sh!t out of it by bouncing off things.

Tossed the rollers on yesterday as I am picking up a set of 40” MTR’s this afternoon for the H2 wheels.

With this truck running down the road more, the end goal is DIY H2 beadlocks and radial 40’s. Wheels and tires are acquired, so I’ll be be airing down but not too far while on the trail for now.

With the rollers on, I could not resist tearing up the yard a little bit. And yes, with that shit eatin grin, there were many man giggles.

It’s a good look! :waytogo:

Loaded up and headed out to Tuttle Creek ORV to test on the truck today.

If you haven’t been following along or need a refresher, we haven’t had a trip out yet where the ps pump didn’t crack in half 30 minutes into the trails. Since the last failure I removed the overly modified pump and went back to a stock pump. I’ve tested in the yard a ton, but have yet to have it on the trails since. Fingers and toes crossed that we get more than 30min today.

Lots more videos to come, but first round of pics from yesterday at Tuttle Creek ORV.

Overall, no big failures. Beat And bounced on the truck all day and the drivetrain held up great. Not a single beat missed with the 8.1 and the steering.

Only carnage was a front differential cover and back glass. Diff got a hole ripped in it, but I still have a DIY cover that needs tossed on. Back glass broke when the gate opened up and spilt all my prizes out the back.
